ACE VENTURER will smiling smugly after his top tip Dustin Johnson made a spectacular start to The Open on day one.
The big-hitting American fired a seven-under 65 to lead by one from six players including Paul Lawrie, Jason Day and Zach Johnson.
If site tipster Ace is happy with his main pick how do you think the pro at my local club is feeling? I asked him for his selections and he told me to back Lawrie and Retief Goosen each way. The 250-1 and 300-1 shots are both one off the pace.
Club pro Gary McFarlane is no Colin Montgomerie but he's a better tipster than the senior star who said Tiger Woods could win. Unfortunately Tiger will be going home tonight after a disastrous first-round 76 in the best of the conditions.
My No.1 selection Louis Oosthuizen also started well with a 67 which was matched by pre-tournament favourite and Grand Slam chaser Jordan Spieth.
Dustin Johnson is the new favourite at 4-1 with Ladbrokes but remember he has thrown away four Majors and his bottle is being questioned. His game's made for St Andrews but while he and Spieth were expected to get the better of the weather that no longer looks to be the case with a near four-delay to the start of play meaning they'll be going out late today and in windy conditions.
Spieth is 5-1 at Ladbrokes and others while Jason Day is third favourite at 10-1 with McBookie ahead of Oosthuizen who is generally available at 14-1. Lawrie and Goosen are both down to 50s but are surely too old to go all the way.
I've been looking at some twoballs for Friday and like Danny Willett to beat Thongchai Jaidee, Jamie Donaldson to outscore Keegan Bradley and Marc Warren against Padraig Harrington. The treble pays just over 5-1 at McBookie.
1pt Treble
Willett to beat Jaidee
Donaldson to beat Bradley
Warren to beat Harrington
(5-1, McBookie)
Woods lies 145th in the field and he will be going home all right unless he wants to hang around for a few days and have a game with me.It looks like there is a confidence issue with him and I don’t see him getting it back shame really because what a great player. There is a few big names who will be joining him if they don’t go for it today .My e/w bet of Swartzel is in the mix but Dubisson not so I have Phil on the nose and he can come from the back to win but wide open the now.
Woods blew it big time on the front 9 yesterday where everyone was making their score. The strange thing was that he played the tougher back 9 as well as anyone.
Great seeing a couple of scots in the mix makes it so much more exciting to watch.lets hope mark warren and Paul Lawrie can hang in there.i will not be backing them as I don’t want to destroy there tournament
So close with your golf treble Mr Fix it,I thought it was up till I checked Harrington’s score unlucky mate…tomorrow we will conquer!!
robertJB, I had a run for my money – hopefully get something up tomorrow once today’s play finally finishes. Ace’s outright tip Dustin still up there and looking good.
I blindly backed the bet and it came in at reduced odds?
Sheffield steel, 2 winners and 1 tie so if you backed with a bookie who deadheated Harrington and Warren you have a winner as you say at reduced odds.
I’ve been informed through a third party there will be no more tips or comments from raaljaca for the forseeable future. On behalf of site regulars I thank him for the contributions he made and hope he can put his life back together.
Hope he’s okay. Doesn’t sound good whatsoever. Will all miss him but things are bigger gambling.
Good old b365. I look forward to tomorrow’s then
Hope Raaljaca & family are all well. The great tipster will be missed. Thanks for everything you have given to this site.
Bit of a nuisance this golf dragging on. I was hoping to pick up my Zach Johnson winnings on Sunday. Schwartzel might be in there too. Let’s hope a deluge or two tonight slows down Bootsie and Snudge- I mean Willett and Dustin…
