I HAD a great day on the League Cup Final and a decent one with the top tips.
Celtic were my big fancy for the Hampden showdown with Dundee United and I also tipped Kris Commons at 9-2 to score first and a red card in the match at 9-4. For those who read my Daily Record column on Saturday the Bonkers Bet was 2-0 Celtic at 11-1 so I was delighted when James Forrest missed his late penalty.
My day started unluckily with the goals single. I went for over 3.5 at PSV but it finished 2-1 after the home side missed a penalty.
Then came the Top Treble. My first two picks – Wolfsburg and Sevilla – both won 3-0 and Real Madrid beat Levante 2-0 to bring up the Top Treble although it should have been even more comfortable. Some comments suggested I tipped Real -2 but the listed Top Treble clearly stated Real -1 and at no point did it say anything different although the price should have been 11-10 (2.1) and not 21-10. Admin say the copy had -2 and that typo was corrected by them.
For the Super Single I split stakes between Lyon win at Marseille and Lyon double chance and with it ending a draw I won 0.4 points.
Tonight the Premier League game is Swansea v Liverpool while Reading tackle Bradford in their FA Cup quarter-final replay. There are three games in Serie A – Fiorentina v AC Milan, Torino v Lazio and Roma v Sampdoria – while Davie Moyes's Real Sociedad travel to Getafe in La Liga.
For fans of the Dutch Jupiler League there is a full card – although I noticed Friday's games didn't produce as many goals as usual. Seven games went under 2.5 goals which is not the norm for a league where all but one team (VVV) average more than 2.5 goals a game this season.
I studied the stats last night and put up a table showing each team's goals average. Emmen's matches have totalled 115 goals with 66 coming in 15 home matches – that's over four a game. Based on stats I'm taking Emmen v Eindhoven over 3.5 goals as the goals single.
I also noticed there aren't many draws (around 20 per cent) and that most short-priced home sides win. Runaway leaders NEC, 18 points clear at the top, have actually won 14 out of 14 on home soil so let's take them against Volendam with Top OSS, who have won four of their last five and entertain bottom-of-the-table RKC.
Swansea will be happy with where they are in the league but a mid-table position leaves them with nothing to play for – even fighting relegation can be exciting. Liverpool have a top-four place to aim at as well as a FA Cup semi-final spot and I expect them to leave Wales with three points.
They are a best 21-20 with the likes of bet365, BetVictor and William Hill. Daniel Sturridge has netted four goals in three games against the Swans and is 7-4 at BetBright to net at any time.
For the Super Single I toyed with Liverpool but after much thought I'm doing a similar bet to Sunday and going for half stakes on Bradford and half stakes on Bradford not to lose.
Bradford were will tipped to beat Championship Reading in the original tie but a poor pitch seemed to affect both sides and it was a poor game of few chances. Reading, who played for a 0-0 and got it, are now favourites at 10-11 with bet365, Hills and others but I'm not sure they'll live up to the billing having lost three of their last four matches at home.
City of course won at Chelsea and have played well on their travels all season. Their form remains solid and as it's a tie I believe could go either way I'm looking at Bradford draw no bet at 21-10 with Ladbrokes. To win Bradford are as big as 7-2 with Betfred and BetVictor.
Milan haven't won any of their last six games but haven't lost on their last six trips to Fiorentina. So do you go with form or stats? I'd go with form and take Fiorentina to edge this at a best 19-20 with William Hill with Milan without an away success since October.
Roma will start favourites at 20-21 with Betfred to beat Sampdoria but a record of eight wins in nine games that has allowed Juventus to open up an a11-point lead at the top of Serie A is worrying. The Romans are 4-6 with William Hill and Betfred but I'm not sure about this one.
Lazio are in fine form having won four in a row and head to a Torino side who could be jaded after a Europa League trip to Zenit where they went down 2-0. The Romans had a free week and while they lost on their last two visits to face the Turin side they can edge this one with Torino again in European action on Thursday.
Lazio are a best 6-4 with the likes of BetVictor and what about veteran striker Mario Klose to score. He has netted three in his last two games and is 19-10 at 888sport. Either of those were Super Single possibilities.
Getafe-Sociedad is a tough call. Sociedad remain without away win and have collected just six points on the road all season but hit home form has kept them out of relegation trouble.
Their last three at home have resulted in 2-1 wins for Getafe while Real have drawn three of their last five on a road. A draw looks possible and I like the look of both to score at 11-10 with Betfred.
I'm reluctant to do too many bets on a fairly quiet Monday but as I've tipped Lazio and Liverpool I'm putting them on a 1pt treble with Fiorentina. That leaves 1.75pts for the Daily Double.

Punting, I always admired Mandaric as he genuinely seemed interested in getting each team he owned back onto a level footing and didn’t bleed them dry like many other owners.

Not a great weekend for myself but had a quick look at tomorrows fixtures and for me I think Bradford to score at 1.57 with WH isn’t too bad considering they have scored 19 goals in 7 FA cup games, the previous game was a draw but the teams have no choice but to go for this and both have had their eye on this game with players being rested at the weekend, BTTS is 2.00 with William Hill also but I’ll be on that as a single.
I’m betting a little more conservative tomorrow so instead of taking Lazio to win for my double I’ll be on them to score at 1.33 they have been in decent form lately and have scored at least one goal in the last 5 games, also tomorrow is their game in hand and if they win it will take them 3 points above Napoli and into 3rd place, I’m confident they’ll take their chance but this is italian football after all so for me it’s a single.

Wato: The cash out slider makes perfect sense. Let’s say you place a bonkers bet (think 10/1 price or over), and due to the course of the game you are betting on, the current in-play price has fallen drastically (think below evens). Obviously, your bet is well in the money. You can cash out a portion to cover the amount you’ve placed, and still have a bet with a very good opportunity to land and give you decent profits.
With that being said, you should always seek to cover rather than cashing out, as the betting sites tend to have quite the liquidity premium charged for their cash out option :-)

Where we are fallible is looking for the buzz betting brings simply because as human beings anything that can give this possesses the chance of addictions and that is where common sense goes out the window. I am surprised by the number of people that are so ruled by the need of having their bets up around Even or above to be a good bet.
I may be totaly wrong, but any odds/price which you after well done research find to be of Great value after putting into perspective:
1. Stats
2. Both Teams recent and near-future games
3. Team News
4. Gut feeling
Is a Good Bet.
For example:
If You find a game between two sides where both teams have had over 1,5 goals in for example 12 of their last 15 games, good H2H for the Bet and with no other news to put you of the thoughts that also this game will be over 1,5 goals. Lets say you find the odds of 1,45 –
Yes it’s a short odds and not a BIG return but also you have stats, H2H and your gut feeling that would calculate the odds to be more like 1,25-1,30 – Well There you have a VALUE-BET and if you keep finding VALUE bets and stake wisely the chances of you bank increasing over time is Well in advance of the strategy to always be greedy for a odds that are EVENS or above.
Just a THEORY – What do you Think Maestros? Raaljaca? Mr F?
Daniel, a good bet is a good bet irrespective of the odds in my opinion but where the odds become important is if a bet loses at around EVENS then your next one winning puts you back on a no loss situation. When betting at shorter odds of say 1/2 4/6 etc it means any losses need slightly more winning bets to retrieve any losses. I study all my bets and look at what I think will win and only then do I consider the odds factor but would not hesitate to back a 1/2 bet if I thought it has a very good chance of landing and also a 2/1 with the same theory. Bookies prices are only their opinions and they do get it wrong time and time again.

With a “Value-Bet” at odds say 1/2 (1,50) you expect lets say at least 3 of 4 to be Winners so thus after loosing a bet of such odds you do not expect to have that bet fully recouped after just one more bet always, as long as there IS VALUE in Bets, ANY odds from 1/5 to 5/1 is a Good Bet.
To Think that any loosing bet should be recouped after just one more winning bet is to be betting short-term focused.
FOR EXAMPLE the game between Leipzig and Dusseldorf tonigt:
To Place Dusseldorf to Score over 0,5 TG at 1/2 (1,50) is from my Point of view based on stats history, H2H etc a Good Single.
Leipzig have conceed in last 5 home games,
Dusseldorf have scored in 4 of last 5 away games AND in 14 of last 15
If I would Place the bet over and over 10 times at odds 1,50 with stats, H2H etc at this odds I would Very likely be in Profit over time
funny you say that daniel as in my eyes getafe game over 1.5 mg @1.45-@1.475 is the best bet today (roughly the same odds you quoted for the same type of bet).betting at evens has no inherent advantage other than making it easier to see if you are winning more than you losing,as it has 50/50 chance, and it seems like an unwritten rule of the site for these odds to be favoured.

overeem, agree totally with you mate but I think that any bet that is tipped at around evens can be seen as a genuine tip as opposed to another at around 1/2 which becomes more likely to win and is seen as less of a tip. I think that anyone who sees anything that they truly believe will win and can explain why is worth reading and posting as many short priced bets do lose but the ones that land are well worth being on if they are seen as being possibly even better than the odds suggest or as good as the odds suggest.
raaljaca, I agree with you in that a 1-2 tip isn’t really a tip if it’s a W-D-W. I know people who look at a coupon and simply pick three or four short-priced teams blindly because they believe they’ll win as the they’ve been priced up so short. If it’s on a market that’s not clearly advertised it’s different.
Daniel, the only value bet is a winning bet – it doesn’t matter what the price is. However, unless you’ve got a certain amount of staking power there’s no fun backing short-priced singles. Plenty of people go for big odds at low stakes and there’s nothing wrong with that.

Placing a small tenner a day on odds of 1,40 isn’t the same excitement than placing it on a 3,00 single/double/treble.
But in the end Whats definately MOST FUN is to see the bank week after week raise and EVERY ONE who bets seriously should not let “FUN-part” (Excitement) take over pure strategy and calculations.
A tenner a day on odds 1,40-1,50 games can be as FUN as possible in the end as long as value is better that odds.
Betting a tenner a day will never ever (unless you have the Lotto-type of luck) give you a decent income from betting, but it’s more FUN to have the small bank grwo over time than loosing Money for the FUN Excitement.

After some checking on Oddsportal, I have seen that the highest Betvictor had the prices, at any historical time, for the individual legs of the bet is 2.39 (1.40 x 1.40 x 1.22). So I think a reasonable assumption to make is Mr F could have got the odds mistaken – rather than 21/10 it could have been intended as 11/10 (2.10)?

After results went our way at the weekend, turned out the point at Brighton was a decent one and put us back into touching distance of the play-offs.
We have two games in three days at home and Jackett will know only a win will do here especially when you consider we have Derby on Friday night.
Jackett has also hinted a return to the 11 for Dicko and will effectively go for it against a Sheff Wednesday side who aren’t in bad form themselves. Wednesday are certainly capable of pinching a goal or two here which makes the over 1.5 TGs at 13/10 a much safer bet than the 11/10 on offer for a Wolves win. Both however are a great price in what is a game Wolves cannot afford to lose if they want to maintain the momentum to catch Ipswich and Brentford.

Another great price for me would be the 3/1 currently on offer for Wolves to make the play-offs. We certainly have the fire power with Sako, Dicko, Afobe and even Doyle to frighten the best teams in the league. After all we’ve beaten Norwich, Middlesbrough, Brentford and Watford this season. I’ve watched Ipswich against Norwich and Middlesbrough and have been left completely uninspired by them a very slow looking outfit epitomised by the very error prone ex Wolf and Hearts defender Christophe Berra.
I have said all season that Brentford are due a wobble and with the question marks over their manager and their inability to break down ten and then nine men Cardiff I’m questioning their ability to last the pace. I expect Wolves to be on the same points as Brentford by 10pm tomorrow night.
For promotion I originally fancied Derby and Middlesbrough for the two automatic spots but having looked at the fixtures there is no doubt in my mind that Bournemouth and Norwich have the easiest run ins. To win the league Bournemouth are 5/2 and Norwich 4/1. If I was to pluck for anybody I’d go with Norwich but with most of the teams still to play each other its going to be a fascinating finish to the end of the season. Derby have a really tough run in especially when you consider there recent form and they go into the games v Boro (tomorrow) and Wolves (Friday) without a win in four they know they have to sort that out this week.

Liverpool have never won at the Liberty, but I am going against the stats and taking them to win at evens Ladbrokes. Swansea are very inconsistent getting hammered by Chelsea beating Man United then losing to Spurs. Liverpool are flying and scoring goals bar the Blackburn game but with a full week to prepare I think they will get the job done.
Liverpool last 5 away games have gone under 2.5g but again I am going against the stats, Swansea would love to put one over their former manager and are stuck in mid table so no reason not to have a go, and Liverpool really need all 3 points as they have seen Arsenal and Man United win this weekend. Five of the last six matches between the two have been O2.5 it is 20/19 888sport.
In the goal scorer market I will be on Daniel Sturridge, he his getting back to full fitness and while he as only scored once since his comeback, he is a prolific striker and his record against Swansea is good and scored in his last visit to the liberty Stadium. He is 13/8 Ladbrokes.
In the FA Cup I am finding it hard to call a winner, I will be mainly watching the premier league game, so it will be a small stakes bet on a scorer for me and I have gone win Jon Stead who has scored 5 goals in the cup this season and looks a good price at 7/2 Ladbrokes.

As a Bradford fan obviously I’m happy for the tips in our favour tonight. A couple of extra ones may be of interest. SkyBet have boosts on Hanson to score first (now 10.00) and Stead to score anytime + Bradford win (9.00). I reckon these are worth a small stake. Hopefully the game lives up to the recent encounters and goals are the order of the day. Liverpool are set up in a very attacking formation to include personnel. Midfielders in defence, Wide forwards in the wing back role and a very forward thinking Moreno. Pace and energy all over the pitch with two passing teams will hopefully mean end to end stuff. Yeah i did Mr F that is what made me do that over 2.5 stat experiment, as it said the teams with a certain percentage were chosen which involved 5 games and the 3 with the biggest percentages were chosen and both came in.
So this time the experiment worked but how many times will/would it happen again based on the same stats in other games to come ?
We all know that league is a goal fest at times but was just something that interested me when i seen your post.
