THIS week we are at The Barclays in New Jersey for the first of four FedEx Cup Playoffs with all the big names in the hat with the exception of Tiger Woods, Steve Stricker, Jason Dufner and Dustin Johnson.
Picking a winner is going to be a tough call but hopefully we can make it five in a row after taking Marc Warren at 30-1 to win last week's Made in Denmark tournament. That sure was a tip Made in Heaven!
My picks are going to be guys I’ve picked recently because I feel they are in form guys although I’m leaving out THE form guy Rory McIlroy. He’s had a week off celebrating after his US PGA win and I don’t think he’ll be at his best.
So my first pick is Rickie Fowler. His T3 at the PGA kept his record of top-five finishes in all the Majors this season and his form is only second to Rory’s so seems a logical pick.
His driving accuracy is just under 60% and GIR nearly 64% and when this tournament was played here last in 2010 the driving accuracy was 63% and GIR was 64%. So if he plays to form he’s going to be close at the end of the tournament.
In his last start at Ridgewood in 2008 Sergio Garcia lost in a play-off so he can play the course. With four top0threes in his last five tournaments he’s another golfer in top form. His accuracy off the tee is over 64% and he’s fourth in GIR with nearly 70% put that with strokes gained in putting at .322 (ranked 35) he must have a great chance.
One man who had a pretty good start to the season but has had a miserable middle season is Hunter Mahan. He looks to be returning to some kind of form with a T15 at the Bridgestone Invitational followed by T7 in the PGA.
Even although it’s not been a great season for Hunter his stats certainly hold up with driving accuracy over 65% and GIR 67%. He’s certainly worth an each-way bet.
Another player having an up and down season is Charl Schwartzel and in his last six outings he’s had three top-10s. Although his stats aren’t that great in his last 16 rounds he’s only been over 70 three times and is seventh in birdie average and eighth in scoring average, well worth an each way.
Over at the Czech Masters I’m going for fellow Scot Stephen Gallacher to follow our tip last week, Marc Warren, to take home the trophy.
Stephen is not far away from an automatic selection for the Ryder Cup spot (Graeme McDowell and Luke Donald are just above him with Ian Poulter right behind so a win here could do him now harm whatsoever).
His driving accuracy isn’t that great but GIR is over 69% and putting is under 30 per round so I’ll have a wee wager on him.
20pt staking plan
Rickie Fowler 3pts ew 20-1 (Ladbrokes, bet365)
Sergio Garcia 2pts ew 20-1 (Betfred)
Hunter Mahan 1pt ew 50-1 (bet365)
Charl Schwartzel 1pt ew 50-1 (Ladbrokes, McBookie)
Stephen Gallacher 3pts ew 22-1 (bet365, Betfred)
Ace Venturer
Only one for me tonight
Nationals over 4.5 runs @ 2.15 *WON*
Good luck
————————————
I didn’t expect it to come up that quick.
It’s the bottom of the third and it’s 6-1 nationals, so off to bed it is.
Garcia for glory
Garcia would be nice.
Dan the guy deserves to win something. With McIlroy only finished celebrating heres hoping Garcia can take advantage as he is generally a consistent golfer
Mr F are you going to put an ‘other sports’ thread or can we post them here??
Iddy, no time, got to be on the 1st tee soon. Post them on the golf thread and I’ll put one up when I get back.
Any plays for today iddy ? Cheers mate
Need a good day today after being let down by Robredo yesterday. Should have tipped Goffin, but I knew some people out there had backed him outright on my advice and I was worried of a double whammy if he lost yesterday. Who you got today Iddy?
having had a quick look down the card these look like some possible options
Goffin @ 4/9
Young 8/13
Janowicz @ 4/7
Mahut @ 13/10
Bouchard @ 4/6
also Lu d Granollers
and Rosol d Andujar. not sure how great Rosol was playing in the last round and seems lucky Johnson withdrew, but Andujar has just never done anything on a hard court.
Who do you strongly fancy Ad from that list?
I’m just popping out but i’ll be back on with some hopefully confident picks from that list at around 4. this weeks a little tougher to pick from that last week as it’s a more even, weaker field.
Good shouts Mr F. Jim Furyk has been there or thereabouts over the last few weeks and 28/1 appears good value. Similarly, I think Webb Simpson and Ryan Moore offer value at 55/1 and 66/1 (ew pays 1/4 odds – top 5).
In the European event fancy Luiten, but 12/1 is a bit stingy. Better value might be Karlberg (50/1) and Lundberg (80/1). Small stakes only.
FYI – Ad I have put a tourney outright win double on Janowicz and Bouchard at 110/1. I have had a look at the draw and it’s not outside the realms of possibility.
Having said that I won’t be surprised if Isner won the mens and Kvitova/ Wozniaki won the women’s.
Just looking at today’s card now
Good luck with that outright double. certainly not impossible. If she builds on her last performance Bouchard has a great chance now haleps crashed out. Can’t help but feel Jerzy will let us down sooner or later though!
I’m leaning towards Young/Rosol/Bouchard or Janowicz
And I was also thinking about Giorgi to win a set being a possible option too.
US open qualifying day 2 is also on today so might look at that as well for todays suggestions
Danny yer neighbour gave you a bum steer
My suggestions are as follows
Janowicz
Mahut
Young
Murguruza
Bouchard
Petkovic
2 odds against I like are
Niemenen – I know Goffin is on 22 match streak but niemenen eat him 6-0, 6-0 last time!!
Giorgi v Wozniaki – odds are 10/3. This should be a very close match, if u can get Giorgi to win a set. That might be a better option.
My top 3 at moment is looking like Janowicz/ Young/ Murguruza or Bouchard.
Wednesday’s tennis tips:
Double:
Rosol d Andujar (NAP)
Young d Garcia-Lopez
pays 6/4
Singles:
Mahut d Seppi @ 5/4 (nb)
Giorgi to win a set v Wozniaki @ 7/5
My formatting was changed on posting. Just to clarify, my NAP for the day is the double on Rosol and Young. My next best bet is Mahut to beat Seppi. Good luck all.
And again i’ll re-iterate, this isn’t an easy week to pick winners so keep it sensible.
If you think the Giorgi Wozniaki match will be close Id, you can get 4/1 on her to win with betfair.
I have settled on the following ‘NAP’
Janowicz / petkovic win double
It pays around 1/1 – both have beaten today’s opponent in only previous meetings and both did it in straight sets. Both my tips are the better of the 2 players and higher ranked. Vasselin had the harder match yesterday so shouldn’t be as fresh as Janowicz either. Petkovic should also have too much power for flipkens also.
If they don’t both win I will feel badly let down!!! As neither of my tips should beosing to their respective opponents!!
I’ve got both of them in a bigger acca for interest but left them out of my main bets in the end. good luck Id, they should come in. my only concern over janowicz is his double faulting. When he beat Vasselin in straights be served something like 18 aces to 2 doubles. Since the start of the US hardcourt season he has served 46 aces to 43 doubles over 6 matches. As I’ve already got a single on him to win outright I’m leaving him alone. I’ll try and watch some of his match today and see how he’s looking
I’m on your double again today Ad :)
Really hoping it does the business for you Wato. Fingers crossed Goffin wins again too.
Ad – u could have told me about this DF problem!! He’s a break down already. He’s served 1 ace and 2 Df’s. Think he will tank now as he doesn’t normally have the heart to try and come back.
Hopefully he holds his opening game this time. From looking at the stats he seemed to hold his other pretty comfortably. Though not many inroads into RVs serve
Not much time again today. Gone through about half the games so far and got one. There may be more later if I get time.
Rays over 3.5 runs @ 1.86
Good luck everyone.
Well Janowicz won so 1 down and Petkovic to go.
Giorgi also won, for anyone who had her to win a set or the match at 10/3
just got home to a good set of results so far. Janowicz came from behind which is a surprise! Goffin won and giorgi beat wozniaki. gutted i didnt take her at 4/1 but the to win a set bet came in easily.
You guys certainly have some good tips hope Petkovic wins and Goffin did the business again too :)
It’s my two remaining outright tips going head to head in the quarter finals, Janowicz and Goffin. Really could go either way. I would probably have to favour Goffin as the more consistent player though. Lucky i’ve backed them both!
Iddy-did you watch the janowicz match? what was his performance like
Gonna go with one more tonight.
Reds @ Cards under 6.5 runs 2.1
Good luck.
Jesus, Mahut just missed an open court put away forehand to take it to 1 set all v Seppi. Just wasn’t meant to be. Really hoping Young and Rosol come through to bring the double in.
Ad – I didn’t see it but 5 aces to 9 Df’s isn’t a good stat. To be fair he did come back from a set down so must have toughed it out.
Shame Mahut lost – he had a SP as well in set 2 TB at 7/6 but then bottled it as per usual
I have cashed out my Janowicz/ Petkovic double for 90% profit.
Off to bed so good luck with Young xnd Rosol matches. Looks like young is making a comeback.
That young match was so up and down he saved 3 match points and was 14/1 at that point then fought back to be well ahead in the final set tie break and blew that after having a match point himself on his own serve. This is my fault it’s always the way when I back someone or a team lol of course Rosol will go ahead and complete his comeback to win “it’s always one” :(
Nice one on the profit Iddy :)
The Barclays Golf tips
Each Way Adam Scott 16/1 Sportingbet 1/4 odds 5 places
Each Way Sergio Garcia 20/1 Ladbrokes 1/4 odds 5 places
Daft golf double
Lundberg
Stenson
Wato – glad I cashed out at a set and a break up. Woke up to find Petkovic lost sets 2 and 3 7-6.
Bouchard has killed my outrights double but have a cracking potential double today, just doing some research before I post it
The man Sergio Garcia @ 20/1 e/w, bet365 has my money
It’s been flagged up as a difficult week from day one and it’s continuing to frustrate. Just one winner from 3 tips yesterday. Haven’t decided whether to post tips today yet, it’s not looking like a much friendlier card at first glance.
Ad – what is your top tip of the day? I am 99% certain on Stosur v Flipkens at 4/11, so need another to bump it to around Evens for daily double
I was thinking Lu v Seppi, or Querry v Garcia
I need to have a look at R2 of qualies as well
Guys just to let you know the cash out option is working I can cash out £9.45 on Goffin to win outright
Do you think he will make it through today? Or should I just take it and run lol
Wato – how much did u put on and how much are u due to win. Goffin is fav to win today but think it will be close.
Being 99% sure of Stosur is brave! But yes, you really would have to expect her to win that. I would maybe take Goffin over Janowicz. having seen the way this weeks panned out so far he’s likely to be too confident and consistent for Jerzy. If he doesn’t get his aces up and his double faults down he will struggle.
I’ve had a quick look through the qualifiers but there’s not much of interest. A couple of Americans- Falconi to beat Lucic-Baroni @ 4/6 and T.Alicia Black to beat Kudryatseva @ 6/5 are possible options from the womens, but there’s nothing i could call with confidence.
I have a feeling Giorgi will get the better of Muguruza and Isner will beat Rosol 2-0.
Wato, how much do you stand to win if Goffin wins the tournament?
I have a feeling Giorgi will get the better of Muguruza and Isner will beat Rosol 2-0.
Wato, how much do you stand to win if Goffin wins the tournament?
Put £5 on him at 16/1
Don’t seem to be able to cash out while he is playing only before his matches start each round
If it’s a risk you can’t afford to take then take the money, but on the grounds that I think he will beat Janowicz today I think it would be logical to leave it running.
I’m going to resist the temptation of trying to meet this tricky week head on and won’t be putting up a single or double today as there’s nothing im confident enough in to justify tipping at shorter odds. My only tip is a fourfold of:
Goffin d Janowicz
Stosur d Flipkens
Hsun Lu d Seppi
Isner 2-0 d Rosol
pays 9/2
Don’t want to put much cash on the line today, so i’ll take a lowish stakes win here to put me back on level terms with this week.
Good luck to anyone tempted
If you feel that Ad I will just keep it going. Not a bad option that though if we are able to pick decent players that you would be confident getting to quarter finals etc cause the cash out virtually doubled. I’ve never really been keen on backing anyone or a team to win outright but will think about it more in the future
Wato was that on B365?
I would say let it run for another round.
I have a few early ones for US so hope to double them by quarters as well.
Ad – I would be tempted to go 2-0 on Stosur today lol. I’m maybe 97% confident now as u have reminded me it is Stosur!!
Yeah was indeed on Bet365 Iddy
Stosur 2-0 Goffin 2-0 Isner 2-0
£5 returns £40… Could keep me entertained for a few minutes
Dazzler.
I came back to the site this weekend and have noticed that you are putting up the baseball tips. Have all the others posters left; Rusty, Honda, Hoosha, etc?
How are you doing with those mate, records-wise?
Alright Jaseos. Had a bit of time off myself but it seems I’m the only one right now. Rusty did post the other day but I think he’s mainly on the footy thread atm. Not seen Honda or Hoosha post for a while tbh.
Not doing to bad, had a poor night last night but in general I’m around 65-70% strike rate. Only doing singles now though and seeing more profit, which is always good.
You been betting while you’ve been away?
Indians @ Twins
Indians over 3.5 runs @ 1.74
Braves @ Reds
Braves @ 1.63
Padres @ Dodgers
Under 5.5 @ 1.83
One to watch in play
Tigers @ Rays
Price is pitching for the first time against the team that traded him. He’s already admitted it’s going to be emotional and difficult to pitch against friends. If he’s not focused he may struggle with his control, if he has a poor first innings I think it will be worth backing the rays.
Ad – posted earlier but never came up
I liked Rybarikova today v Riske at 8/11.
Confident after win v Halep plus ahead on h2h. What r ur thoughts on this??
