Lyon have a chance to leapfrog Nice in the table as both teams square off in a French Ligue 1 clash on Sunday. Lyon are showing some good form at the moment, especially at home and should have the upper hand over the visitors, who have been poor on the road.
Sitting sixth in the table, Lyon are unbeaten in 11 of their last 12 matches. Pierre Sage’s men are showing some consistency, although four of the last six fixtures have ended in draws, including a 1-1 scoreline at Reims last time out.
Lyon followed up the result at Reims by claiming a 4-1 win at Qarabag in the Europa League on Thursday. That will give them some confidence for Sunday’s clash along with their recent home form, having picked up two wins and a draw from the last three Ligue 1 matches at the Groupama Stadium.
Nice are currently one point above Lyon and head into this fixture unbeaten in their last eight Ligue 1 matches. However, they have picked up just four wins in that run, including the 2-1 victory over Strasbourg in their previous Ligue 1 fixture.
Things may appear good for Nice at the moment but they seem to mostly do their best work at home. Franck Haise’s men have claimed just one win from their last six away matches across all competitions.
How the bookies view it: Lyon to triumph
Lyon have the upper hand among the bookies and are priced at 22/25 by Kwiff to claim the win. A victory for Nice is valued at 53/25 while Kwiff are also offering odds of 9/4 for a draw.
Head to head: Lyon solid at home
Lyon have a 28-14 advantage with 13 draws from 55 previous matches against Nice. Lyon have also won two of the last three meetings at the Groupama Stadium, including a 1-0 victory back in February.
Players to watch: Lacazette still dangerous
Alexandre Lacazette remains one of the most dangerous attackers for Lyon and could be worth keeping an eye on. The veteran striker has five goals in his last nine appearances and is priced at 27/20 by Kwiff to find the net once again.
Evan Guessand often leads the line for Nice and could be the one to watch on Sunday. The forward has six goals this season and is priced at 12/5 by Kwiff to find the net.
Probable line-ups
Lacazette and Clinton Mata were unused substitutes for Lyon in the Europa League and should return to the starting line-up on Sunday. Georges Mikautadze should also retain his place in attack following his brace at Qarabag.
Nice have injury problems with Terem Moffi, Morgan Sanson and Jonathan Clauss all sidelined. Guessand and Mohamed Ali Cho should start after coming off the bench in their 4-1 Europa League defeat to Rangers.
Lyon: Perri, Maitland-Niles, Mata, Caleta-Car, Tagliafico, Veretout, Tolisso, Cherki, Fofana, Mikautadze, Lacazette.
Nice: Bulka, Abdelmonem, Rosario, Ndayishimiye, Bard, Camara, Boudaoui, Louchet, Laborde, Guessand, Cho.
Anything else catch the eye?
Lyon and Nice have quality going forward and both teams could be backed to score on Sunday at 11/20 with Kwiff. Each team saw over 3.5 goals in their Europa League fixtures and a repeat is priced at 29/20 by Kwiff, who are also offering 3/5 for over 2.5 goals.
Both teams are averaging over 9.5 corners per match this season and that run is expected to continue at 17/20 with Kwiff.
