Wednesday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me focus on the Champions League, and I’ve highlighted a goals-based selection in one of the fixtures.
⚽️ Celtic 🏴 vs Club Brugge 🇧🇪
🇪🇺 Champions League
⏰ Wednesday 27 November, 20:00
Celtic will look to make it three wins from three in the Champions League at Celtic Park this campaign as they play host to Belgian champions Club Brugge in a fixture that appeals to me for goals.
Celtic’s near faultless start to their Scottish Premiership campaign continued at the weekend, as they won 1-4 at Tynecastle against second-from-bottom Hearts to move three points clear of Aberdeen at the top following the Dons’ 2-1 defeat at St Mirren earlier on Saturday.
Despite domestic dominance over the last decade or so, Brendan Rodgers’s side has generally fallen short in Europe, but things certainly appear to be different this campaign.
That 7-1 mauling in Dortmund on MD2 aside, Celtic have impressed in the new Champions League’s new format this term, escaping Bergamo with a point and defeating perennial Slovak champions Slovan Bratislava 5-1 and most recently Bundesliga side RB Leipzig 3-1 at Celtic Park.
Club Brugge bounced back from their surprise 2-2 draw away at rock-bottom Beerschot before the international break at the weekend as they put seven unanswered goals past Sint-Truiden to leave them in second position in the Belgian Pro League table, six points behind leaders Genk.
Nicky Hayen’s visitors have been beaten 0-3 at home to Borussia Dortmund and 3-1 at Milan in the Champions League this season, but 1-0 wins away at Sturm Graz and most recently at home to Aston Villa – thanks to a comical penalty – sees the reigning Belgian champions arrive in Glasgow just a point behind their hosts in the Champions League table.
Bet of the Day
Celtic have slammed in an eye-catching 58 goals across their opening 19 matches in all competitions this season, scoring on multiple occasions in 17 (89%) of them – including in all nine (100%) at Celtic Park.
Whatsmore, The Hooos have now scored 2+ goals in each of their previous four Champions League fixtures at Celtic Park, and I’m backing them to bag another double at home to a Club Brugge defence that has recorded just three clean sheets across their 10 away matches in the Belgian Pro League & Champions League this season.
- Celtic to Score Over 1.5 Goals
