With the contract of Liverpool talisman Virgil van Dijk expiring in the summer it is surprising that no news has currently spread about the Reds looking to extend his stay at Anfield.
Now, with the January transfer window fast approaching, there is a great deal of speculation around Van Dijk potentially signing a provisional deal to join a new club in the summer. One of Spain's giants is currently leading the bookies' estimations as to who will secure the Dutchman's signature.
Barcelona are 8/1 to sign Van Dijk in the summer, should he decide to part ways with his beloved Liverpool. With no terms currently agreed upon and the central defender still being ever-present in the Reds starting lineup at 32 years old, a host of teams are preparing to make a move for the player. Only time will tell whether his time on Merseyside is coming to an end.

Current favourites if Van Dijk leaves
Barcelona – 8/1
Punters' best choice for a Van Dijk switch is Spanish giants Barcelona. With veteran Inigo Martinez's contract also up in the summer, the Blaugrana could see Van Dijk as a potential mentor for young defender Pau Cubarsi.
With Ronald Araujo and Andreas Christensen both currently injured, a void has opened up for Cubarsi to fill. Martinez has had no word of a new contract thus far, and so Van Dijk could be well placed to make the switch.
However, at 8/1 this move is far from nailed on. Most would expect Liverpool to offer a contract extension to the Dutch defender, but if this does not materialise, Barcelona seem a great choice with their lengthened odds.
Any Saudi Arabian team – 9/1
Sometimes it is easy to forget that Van Dijk is 32 years old. The veteran centre-half has been around for a long time, but has always retained the same power and intensity even in the latter stages of his career.
However, it is hard to rule out the Saudi Pro League as a destination for Van Dijk. As with a lot of players over the age of 30, the last year has seen them be offered contracts in Saudi Arabia. Examples such as N'Golo Kante and Fabinho come to mind. With no contract extension present from Liverpool, and a healthy pay cheque waiting in the Middle East, this could see Van Dijk's head turn towards a move to Saudi Arabia.
Yet, as the defender is still at the top of his game despite his age, it may be unlikely that he would wish to quit playing at the top level when he is still more than capable. 9/1 is decent value for punters, but other options may be a better selection.
PSG – 14/1
While they are rank outsiders currently, French superpower PSG provide fantastic value at 14/1. With a current partnership of Milan Skriniar and Marquinhos, PSG have been known to sign older centre-backs with a wealth of Champions League experience. Van Dijk certainly fits this mould.
While it is debatable whether Luis Enrique will target another long-serving centre-back, signing the Dutchman would hardly be seen as a bad call by a club looking to put themselves back in contention for the Champions League again. Van Dijk, after all, does have a Winners Medal for the competition.
