I didn't get to watch Cairnzy's race, but it was nice to see the lad land a 9/1 winner. The race seemed a little strange and Cairnzy messaged me saying that two horses refused hurdles early into the race, which left it as a two runner race for the majority, with his selection jumping the best (both didn't jump great).
Rizzel's Tips
Flic Ou Voyou 9/4 – Carlisle 2.05
As like normal, it appears that I've found myself backing a horse in the Veterans' series with Flic Ou Voyou standing out by a fair margin.
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out that these old horses are all well handicapped on older pieces of form, but I think it's best to focus on recent form, rather than what they did achieve in the past. For me, Flic Ou Voyou has some very good form from his two runs this season and should be difficult to beat, as long as none of the others bounce back to form.
Flic Ou Voyou beat an unexposed chaser from the Rebecca Menzies stable last time out, and that horse had previously won at Downpatrick on chasing debut, and did it with ease, so for this old lad to beat him shows the great form that he is in.
There is a chance that Carlisle doesn't go ahead as they have an inspection at 8am due to the cold weather and potential frozen track. If it goes ahead, the ground should be perfect for my selection, who had put in some great performances on quick surfaces when trained by Paul Nicholls.
For Pleasure 4/1 (2pt) – Fakenham 12.55
I'm writing this up before the odds have been put up, but I get the impression that For Pleasure might be on the short side for this race given he won this race last year on soft ground, and it looks like it'll be similar conditions today, but off a higher mark. If you're seeing this tip, then obviously he has been priced up at a decent enough price.
I really do like the chance of For Pleasure in this race which I deem to be very weak. You have some horses arriving in good form, but are they capable of beating a horse like For Pleasure, given that their form has been at a lower level? I'm not so sure.
For Pleasure is a very useful horse on his day and he does handle the projected soft ground, as he showed last year. The yard is in tremendous form at present and can do very little wrong, so I think he can defy top weight and win this in style from the front under the fantastic Sean Bowen.
