Monday’s Football Tips: Expect a tight one as Velez Sarsfield bid to stretch lead in Argentina

The action for punters is always a little lean heading into an international break so we're off to Argentina tonight for some top-flight action.

Velez Sarsfield top this season's table on goal difference from Huracan but can move three points clear if they win their game in hand at Deportivo Riestra.

The leaders are in excellent form, losing just once in 16 games, but they've wobbled a bit on the road, claiming just two points from their last three away games.

Deportivo sit down in 18th place but they've been a tough nut to crack of late, losing just one of their last 10 games. Six of those matches have ended in stalemates though so they need to start turning draws into wins.

Deportivo Riestra vs Velez Sarsfield top betting tips

Velez Sarsfield are Betano's 4/6 hot favourites tonight but a few punters might be tempted by the stalemate at 5/2, given both sides have drawn three of their last four games. I'm going to play it a bit safer and go for the score to be level at half-time, which pays evens.

Neither team has been scoring freely, with Velez's last five matches seeing under 2.5 goals and the same stat applying for Deportivo's last four games. Riestra's last two games have been 0-0 draws so it's no great surprise to see under 2.5 strikes as short as 4/7 with Betano.

But it ended in a 2-1 win for Velez when these sides last faced off in February so over 2.5 goals might actually offer a bit of value at 13/10.

Club Atletico Lanus vs Platense top betting tips

There's a mid-table clash in Lanus as Club Atletico go in search of the win that would move them level on points with Platense.

After a horror run that saw them go 10 games without a win, Lanus have got back on track with victories over Boca Juniors and Tallares de Cordoba in their last two outings.

Platense have drawn their last two matches 0-0 but are on a fine run of form, going eight matches without defeat to climb up the table after a poor start to the season.

This is a tough one to call and the half-time draw again looks worth a punt, although it only pays 5/6 this time. For slightly better odds, backing most goals to come in the second half pays 5/4 with Betfred.

Otelul Galati vs CFR Cluj top betting tips

There's also top-flight action in Romania tonight and CFR Cluj will be looking to keep their title push on track with a win at Otelul Galati.

Cluj have only lost once in their last nine games but have struggled to turn draws into wins, with five of those matches ending level.

Otelul Galati have also been draw specialists, with eight of their 15 games finishing level, so another stalemate will be popular at 2/1 with Betano, especially with the last two meetings producing scores of 2-2 and 0-0.

The stats suggest this could be a war of attrition so I'm going to combine under 2.5 goals with BTTS no, which pays 51/50 in a Betano bet builder.
