Newcastle United vs Brighton & Hove Albion

, KO: 15:00 Oct 19, 2024, St James' Park
Brighton & Hove Albion

Newcastle United will be bidding to halt their three-game winless run in the Premier League when they welcome Brighton & Hove Albion to St James’ Park on Saturday afternoon.

The Magpies’ bright start to the season is in danger of becoming a distant memory after picking up just two points from the last nine on offer.

Eddie Howe’s side dropped to seventh place in the table before the international break following a dull 0-0 draw with Everton, in a game that brought up my Bet Builder.

Back at their Tyneside base this weekend, Newcastle will look to bank all three points at the expense of sixth-placed Brighton.

The Seagulls signed off for the international break in spectacular style after staging a stunning second-half comeback to defeat Tottenham 3-2.

That was Albion’s first league win since toppling Manchester United 2-1 on matchday two, so manager Fabian Hurzeler will be hoping that victory will act as a springboard for further success this weekend.

How the bookies view it: Toon Army to Triumph

Newcastle United, who haven’t lost a Premier League home game since January, are odds-on 20/21 favourites on Betano.

Brighton are big outsiders at 13/5 on Betano, while an all square affair at St James’ Park pays 29/10 with the same oddsmaker.

Head to head: Seagulls could ruffle Magpies’ feathers

Newcastle's recent record against Brighton doesn't make for great reading. The Magpies have claimed top honours from just two of the 14 Premier League meetings between the pair.

Players to watch: Livramento looks a value option

While Tino Livramento is not exactly renowned for being a serial offender, he stands out to commit a minimum of one foul here at 4/5 with UniBet. The Newcastle right-back is expected to be up against Brighton livewire Kaoru Mitoma, who has drawn an average of one foul per-game in the Premier League this season so far.

Danny Welbeck kept up his strong start to the season by scoring against Spurs last time out. The former Manchester United and Arsenal man has four goals in seven Premier League appearances this season, making him an eye-catching option to add to his tally at 5/2 on Bet 365.

Predicted line-ups

Newcastle boss Howe is hoping to welcome back both Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson from injury on Saturday, though the pair may only be fit enough to start on the bench.

Brighton have a pretty busy treatment room at present, with Jan Paul van Hecke, Joao Pedro, James Milner, Matt O'Riley and Solly March all set to miss out at St James’ Park.

Newcastle: Pope; Livramento , Schar, Burn, Hall; Tonali, Guimaraes, Joelinton; Murphy, Gordon, Barnes

Brighton: Verbruggen; Veltman, Webster, Dunk, Estupinan; Baleba, Hinshelwood; Minteh, Rutter, Mitoma; Welbeck

Anything else catch the eye?

Rather than siding with either team here, I’m happy to propose a Bet Builder of both teams to score alongside over three match cards at 4/5 on Bet 365.

This play would have proven profitable in five of Newcastle’s opening seven Premier League matches of the season.

What’s more, the same combination has also clicked in five of Brighton’s first seven top-flight assignments of the campaign.

Thus, siding with the same formula at St James’ Park on Saturday makes plenty of sense at the above-mentioned price.
