Wodao certainly gave us a run for our money yesterday, going down by a rather agonising head having pulled clear of the rest. Such narrow defeats are never too easy to take, but that’s simply the way it goes.
Musselburgh - 15:50 |
Mereside Diva |
4/1 |
A new week begins today and we kick things off at Musselburgh. Ahead of the race taking place at 15:50. A seven-furlong contest of the Class 3 variety, Mereside Diva ticks plenty of boxes. In fact, she ticks a few too many boxes for 4/1 not to be considered a little on the large side.
This is a race that lacks depth and as such rates as a clear opportunity for David Barron’s filly to improve her strike rate.
This is less demanding that her last assignment
Last time out, the mount of Joanna Mason finished a not-far-away second (of 10) in a Class 3 at Newmarket. That race clearly contained more strength in depth, so it’s not form that should be ignored.
The highest rated runner in here finished behind the selection that day, by a clear two lengths, which is a positive, while the overall profile of this race simply looks less demanding.
To be honest, a reproduction of either of the filly’s last two runs would likely suffice here. Her last win came on good-to-soft, while she also came home in front when last visiting Musselburgh.
It's also promising to report that David Barron is a trainer who does well with his runners at the Scottish venue Trainer does well at Musselburgh.
Well drawn and top of the pile on both sets of speed ratings that I use, the filly really does look to have a chunky opportunity to land the spoils here, so much so that she’s worth betting to get the job done all the time odds of 4/1 remain available.
Based on a £10 level-stakes example, the Nap of the Day running profit is +£30.00 (since switching to being published here (10/09/2024) rather than on the ‘Nap of the Day' page).
