Sundays NAP of the Day

All things considered, it was a rather tame and disappointing effort from the Nap on Saturday, and there really hasn’t been a great deal to shout about since Monday’s pleasing 6/1 winner. Hopefully Sunday brings a turnaround in fortunes.

Wodao

3/1

On Sunday, a day where value certainly seems to be in short supply, the third race at Goodwood catches the eye, not least of all because Wodao looks to have the right sort of opportunity to regain the winning thread, especially after running well in a better race last time out.

I’ll start by saying that at 3/1, this is my shortest-priced Nap yet, though even at what is a shorter price than my typical shouts, there appears to be value on offer. At the time of writing, the mount of Saffie Osborne is not the favourite, but for my money, he ought to be, and given the lack of depth here, I think he could easily be a point shorter.

Drop into Class 3 company could work wonders

Having generally competed at Class 2 level in recent times, this step down into a Class 3 affair is not to be ignored as far as I’m concerned. Let’s face it, this is a previous Listed winner in Ireland, who has dropped to a lenient-looking mark, a mark that is 3 lbs lower than the one that saw him go close over C&D in a better race in August.

Moreover, last time out, the mount of Saffie Osborne, ran respectably to take fourth (of 10) in a Class 2 at Ascot, keeping on well late in the day. A reproduction of that effort in what is clearly a lesser contest would surely see her right there at the death.

Still relatively lightly raced, the gelding has shown more than enough to suggest that he’s got a Class 3 win of this nature up his sleeve. Quite simply, given that these really aren't deep waters, this is easily a more sizable opportunity than odds of 3/1 suggest, so such a price should be taken by those seeking value for money.

Based on a £10 level-stakes example, the Nap of the Day running profit is +£40.00 (since switching to being published here (10/09/2024) rather than on the ‘Nap of the Day' page).
