Another one of those decent runs without landing the prize yesterday as Pellitory outran what was a stupidly big price for a not-far-away third.

On Saturday, I’m quite sweet on Act Of Authority, who at 9/1, rates as a decent bet ahead of the feature race at Chepstow.
This is a competitive race, make no mistake about that, but there are a few ahead of this lad in the market and I’m not quite sure that’s right. For my money, there’s value to be had by taking early odds of 9/1.
After all, trainer Olly Murphy has a decent record at Chepstow, while his record with Sean Bowen in the saddle is absolutely not to be sneezed at.
Step back up in trip looks in favour
For my money, his effort at Sandown last time out, which was in a race that was easily as good as this in terms of strength in depth, was far from poor. He finished sixth (of 19) and shaped as if today’s step back up in trip would see him in a much better light.
Very much at home on soft ground, as he proved when winning at Wetherby over this distance on his penultimate start, doing so without getting out of second gear.
He also looked a smart sort when landing a Class 3 novice affair (on soft ground) at Bangor back in December, again coming clear without being asked to do much. That win tells me that he’s likely got a race of this nature in him before long.
Like many in here, the yet-to-be-fully exposed gelding has been given a break before this race, which shouldn’t be seen as a negative. He’s gone well fresh on more than one occasion, including when winning first time out in 2023.
Throw onto the fire that he rates top of the pile for last-time-out speed ratings, not to mention right up there on career-best speed ratings, and the six-year-old must go down as a solid bet all the time odds of 9/1 are available.
