Two clubs separated by four points in the English League Two table meet at Wetherby Road on Saturday afternoon as 18th-placed Harrogate entertain 11th-placed Newport County in a fixture that appeals to me for goals.
Simon Weaver’s hosts have scored nine goals across their opening 10 League Two contests this term, with five (56%) of them coming across their past three matches on home soil.
The Sulphurites have found the back of the net in each of their previous three league matches in front of their supporters – notching on multiple occasions in two (67%) of them – and will look to continue their recent improvement in front of goal at home against a Newport defence that has conceded a league-high 20 goals in League Two, with their solitary shutout coming against rock-bottom Morecambe.
Nelson Jardim’s visitors have slammed in 16 goals across their opening four matches in the English fourth tier this campaign, with four (25%) of them coming on their travels.
The Exiles have failed to score in just two of their league outings – notching on multiple occasions in five (50%) of them – and will look to trouble a Harrogate backline that has kept just one clean sheet and conceded nine goals across their opening five league outings on home soil.

Newport County’s opening 10 matches in the English fourth tier this term are averaging a league-high 3.60 goals per game, with Over 2.5 Goals banking in a league-best eight (80%) of them – and given the same has landed in three of Harrogate’s previous four league outings – there’s a good chance we’ll see goals here.
What’s more, this fixture has a history of producing goals.
Since Harrogate’s promotion to the Football League in 2020, these two sides have faced off eight times, with their matches averaging an eye-catching 3.88 goals per game – with Over 2.5 Goals landing on each occasion – and I’m happy to have a punt on this trend continuing in Yorkshire on Saturday.
