The Shanghai Masters is slowly coming to a close, and it’s getting tougher and tougher to find good value for our best tennis betting tips. However, we’ve done the heavy lifting and come up with two sharp predictions this Friday.
Best tennis tips and predictions today
The first match features Novak Djokovic against Jakub Mensik, where we’re backing a close affair. The second one will see Taylor Fritz take on David Goffin, with something of a surprise pick.
Djokovic vs Mensik – over 19.5 games @ 4/6
Djokovic has been utterly spectacular so far in Shanghai. It’s no wonder because he’s the most successful player in the history of the event, winning 35 of the 40 matches he played at the event.
That’s a brutal record, and Mensik might not be good enough to add a sixth loss for Djokovic, but we think he can keep it close. It’s mostly because the young Czech player is the real deal.
He’s proven it over and over again, and the conditions here in Shanghai do tend to favour how he plays. It gives him plenty of time to unload his massive forehand, and the serve does tremendous damage as well.
We don’t think he’ll get scared of the matchup either because he loves playing matches like this. Djokovic is certainly far better and likely to win in straight sets, but we like the chances of the match featuring two close sets.
Mensik has the tools and x-factor to make this interesting, and that’s why we’re backing it to happen.
Fritz vs Goffin – under 20.5 games @ 1/1
Fritz and Goffin have played some really solid tennis in recent weeks. Goffin has been particularly good in Shanghai, stunning Alexander Zverev along the way. The level has surprised him, as well as many others, but Fritz has been equally impressive.
The way he dominated Holger Rune was hugely impressive, especially since Rune looked decent earlier in the week as well. Fritz favours a slow hard court, as highlighted by his performances at the Indian Wells Masters in the past. He will certainly like his chances in this one.
We like his chances too because he’s simply a far better player than Goffin at this point in their careers. Their matches so far have been rather close, as both ended in three sets.
Even so, we think this time around Fritz will be able to keep it shorter because he’s taken his game up a notch the past few months, and the conditions suit him quite well. Goffin is likely to falter under the heavy pressure from Fritz.
