Hungary are set to take on the Netherlands in the Nations League on Friday, 11 October with the hosts needing a win to put themselves back in the race for group qualification.
The Netherlands are currently second in League A Group B after beating Bosnia and drawing with Germany while Hungary are rock bottom after losing 5-0 to Germany and only managing to draw with Bosnia.
The other two teams in the group are also in action on Friday night, meaning the status of the group will be a lot clearer by the time this one is done.
How the bookies view it: The hosts are underdogs
Despite playing at home in front of what is usually a packed house at the Puskas Arena, Hungary come into this one as the underdogs. Betfred have priced a home win at 4/1 while a win for the Netherlands has been priced at 4/6. The draw, which wouldn't be a bad result for either team, has been priced at 3/1.
Recent head-to-head: Dutch dominance
The Netherlands have a sublime record against Hungary and they have won the last eight matches between the two nations in a run that stretches back to 1985. The most recent clash between the two sides came in 2013 when the Netherlands recorded a resounding 8-1 victory over Hungary in a result that Ronald Koeman would love to repeat on Friday night.
Players to watch: Liverpool lads go to battle
Cody Gakpo and Dominik Szoboszlai have both enjoyed good starts to the season with Liverpool under new manager, Arne Slot, but the pair will face off against each other on Friday night with Gakpo likely to be the Netherlands' biggest goal threat and Szoboszlai leading Hungary out as captain.
Gakpo was the best Dutch player at Euro 2024 and he took home a share of the Golden Boot award after netting three times in six matches. Gakpo proved in the summer that his best position is out wide and while he has mainly been used as a substitute for Liverpool so far this campaign, his performances have been impressive.
Szoboszlai, on the other hand, has been a regular in the starting XI under Slot and while he is still not at his best, he is showing more and more of what he is capable of. He is a demon from set pieces which will likely be Hungary's best goalscoring opportunities on the night.
Predicted line-ups
Hungary will be without first-choice goalkeeper, Peter Gulacsi, for this one after the 34-year-old told the national team manager that he didn't want to be considered for selection this international break. The Netherlands have concerns of their own, particularly at the back with Timber and Ake both injured.
Hungary: Dibusz – Botka, Dardai, Orban – Bolla, Schafer, Nagy, Kerkez – Sallai, Szoboszlai – Varga
Netherlands: Verbruggen – Dumfries, Van Dijk, Van de Ven, Hato – Reijnders, Gravenberch – Malen, Simons, Gakpo – Zirkzee
Anything else catch the eye?
The Netherlands have a brilliant goalscoring record against Hungary over the years and the current batch are also in a good run of form in terms of goals scored. They have scored at least two goals in five of their last six outings and they are priced at 8/13 with Betfred to score over 1.5 goals on Friday night.
