Chile vs Brazil

, KO: 01:00 Oct 11, 2024, Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Pradanos
Brazil

Brazil resume their World Cup qualifying campaign when they face Chile at the Estadio Nacional Julio Martinez Pradanos on Friday.

The Selecao are making heavy weather of stamping their ticket to the 2026 World Cup, as they currently sit in sixth spot in the South American qualification table, amassing just 10 points from a possible 24 to date.

Dorival Junior’s side laboured their way to a 1-0 win over Ecuador last month, but they then subsequently slumped to a shock 1-0 defeat at Paraguay just four days later.

The five-time World Cup winners will be looking to bounce back at the first time of asking in their latest assignment away at Chile.

Ricardo Gareca’s side crashed out of the Copa America at the group stage and they currently find themselves sitting second from bottom in the South American standings.

La Roja have failed to reach a World Cup since 2014 and they now face a herculean task to plot their path to the 2026 edition in just under two years time.

How the bookies view it: Brazil big favourites

Despite their underwhelming performances during World Cup qualifying thus far, Brazil are short-priced 4/7 (Betano) favourites to pick up a much-needed three points on Friday

Chile have lost each of their last three World Cup qualifiers and they are expected to suffer the same fate here, with a home win trading at 5/1 (Betano) while the draw is also deemed unlikely at 27/10 (Betano).

Head to head: Brazil tend to bag top honours

Brazil have claimed top honours from seven of their last eight meetings with Chile. Each of those seven successes featured under five match goals and the same combination here merits consideration at 4/5 on Bet 365.

Players to watch: Rodrygo to the rescue?

Rodrygo scored the only goal of the game during Brazil's 1-0 win over Ecuador last month, so he could be worth considering for an anytime strike once goalscorer markets have been priced up by the bookies.

Former QPR striker Eduardo Vargas notched in Chile’s 2-1 loss to Bolivia last month and he is likely to be a big price to breach Brazil’s backline.

Predicted line-ups

Chile chief Gareca could freshen things up after calling up four new players for the forthcoming games with Brazil and Colombia.

Brazil will be without goalkeeper Alisson after he suffered a hamstring injury in Liverpool’s 1-0 win at Crystal Palace last Saturday, while Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior will also miss out due to neck injury.

Chile: Arias; Isla, Catalan, Diaz, Suazo; Osorio, Echeverria, Alarcon; Loyola, Davila, Vargas

Brazil: Ederson; Danilo, Marquinhos, Gabriel, Arana; Andre, Guimaraes, Paqueta; Henrique,  Rodrygo, Endrick,

Anything else catch the eye?

The 10/11 for this game to feature 1-2 goals in Bet 365’s Goals Range market looks worthy of interest.

Goals have been at a premium in Brazil games for quite some time now, with  nine of their last 11 competitive contests featuring two match goals or fewer.

What's more, this bet would have also paid out in five of Chile’s last seven World Cup qualifiers on home soil, further suggesting that there is scope for another low-scoring affair on Friday.

This match between Chile and Brazil will be played on Oct 11, 2024 and kick off at 01:00. Check below for our tipsters best Chile vs Brazil prediction. You may also visit our dedicated betting previews section for the most up to date previews.
