Newcastle go into this one as favourites but their last away performance against Fulham will give Everton plenty of optimism. A win for Newcastle has been priced at 11/10 by Betfred while a win for Everton has been priced at 21/10. The draw, which would be a better result for the home team, has been priced at 5/2.
Recent head-to-head: Encouragement for Everton
The recent record between Everton and Newcastle will give the Toffees plenty of hope coming into this one. Last season, Everton went unbeaten across their two matches against the Magpies, winning 3-0 at Goodison Park and drawing 1-1 at St James' Park.
In 2022/23, however, Newcastle completed the double over Everton so this is a match that could go either way.
Players to watch: McNeil to the rescue again?
Last season, the writing looked like it was on the wall for Sean Dyche when Crystal Palace went 1-0 up at Goodison Park. However, one of his oldest allies, Dwight McNeil, dragged the Toffees to a comeback win with two goals in the second half to earn the club their first win of the season.
McNeil has played for Dyche now for six years across two spells at Burnley and Everton and has been a source of frustration for Everton fans at times. However, there is no doubt that he is one of the few players in the squad with the potential to win games on his own as he proved last week. They will need him on top form if they are to down Newcastle.
Newcastle have a winger of their own who also had a good week last week. Anthony Gordon is yet to hit the levels he reached last season but his tireless display against Man City last Saturday played a big part in the Magpies earning a point. Gordon has a point to prove this weekend given his history with Everton and will be desperate to get on the scoresheet.

Everton are without three players for this one with Seamus Coleman, Armando Broja and Yosseff Chermiti all in the treatment room. Meanwhile, Newcastle's injury list continues to grow with six players still missing including Alexander Isak.
