Club Brugge will take on Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday, 18 September as part of the first round of fixtures of this season's Champions League.
The hosts come into the match with four consecutive wins in their domestic League in Belgium, while Borussia Dortmund come into it with an unbeaten start to the Bundesliga.
The visitors will be dreaming of another Champions League final after finishing as runners-up last season, and their journey to Munich will start here.
How the bookies view it: The visitors go in as favourites
Borussia Dortmund have a more recent European pedigree than Club Brugge, so it is no surprise that they start this match as the favourites. Betfred have priced an away win at 1/1 while a win for Club Brugge has been priced at 13/5. The draw, which neither team would turn their noses up at, has also been priced at 13/5.
Recent head-to-head: A fifth meeting in six years
This isn't the first time in recent seasons that Club Brugge and Borussia Dortmund have been paired together in the Champions League. In the 2018/19 group stages, Dortmund beat Brugge 1-0 away before playing out a 0-0 draw at home. Then, in 2020/21, the German side recorded 3-0 victories in both group stage clashes.
Club Brugge's most recent competitive match victory over Borussia Dortmund came in 2003, in a Champions League qualifier.
Players to watch: Two goalscoring widemen to take to the field
Both clubs possess talented players in wide areas and there is a feeling that this is where the match will be won and lost.
Borussia Dortmund's Karim Adeyemi is a player who has felt like he is on the verge of exploding into a superstar for a couple of years now. He signed for the club in 2022 after scoring 19 goals from wide areas for RB Salzburg and has shown glimpses of that form in his two full seasons in Germany.
However, he looks like a more rounded and mature player at the start of the current season and the goals are flowing. He scored five goals for Germany under-21s over the international break and then bagged a brace for his club at the weekend in the win over Heidenheim.
Club Brugge's most fearsome player is also a winger in the form of Andreas Skov Olsen. The 24-year-old is their top scorer so far this season and has scored three goals and provided three assists in his last six appearances.
Predicted line-ups
Club Brugge are without two players on Wednesday night with Bjorn Meijer and Casper Nielsen both ruled out due to injury. Serhou Guirassy is finally available for Borussia Dortmund after an injury derailed his start to the season. Gio Reyna is their only injury concern.
Club Brugge: Mignolet – Seys, Mechele, Ordonez, De Cuyper – Vetlesen, Onyedika – Olsen, Vanaken, Tzolis – Nilsson
Borussia Dortmund: Kobel – Ryerson, Anton, Sule, Bensebaini – Gross, Can, Sabitzer – Brandt, Guirassy, Adeyemi
Anything else catch the eye?
At least three goals have been scored in each of Club Brugge's last three matches in all competitions while Borussia Dortmund come into the match on the back of a six-goal thriller in the Bundesliga. Over 2.5 goals to be scored on Wednesday night has been priced at 8/11 with Betfred.
