Rangers vs Dundee

, KO: 19:45 Sep 21, 2024, Ibrox
Dundee

RANGERS got back on track last week with a win over Dundee United and now return to Ibrox on Saturday to play their city rivals Dundee in the Premier Sports Cup quarter final.

After a first part of the season bedevilled by off-field problems they can at least return to their home which should make a difference.

Of course, they still have those problems with chairman John Bennett standing down and Ibrox not yet at full capacity, but it's a step in the right direction.

Last week, the only thing that mattered was winning at Tannadice after an Old Firm trouncing and while they hardly sent out a title warning with a jittery performance, they got the job done.

For Dundee, they crashed to a surprise 2-0 defeat at Ross County which was their first loss of the season.

It was the first time they had failed to score at least two goals all campaign and can probably be put down to a bad day at the office for Tony Docherty's side who have made significant progress.

However, you can't help feeling the loss of captain Luke McCowan to Celtic was always going to catch up with them at some point.

How the bookies view it: Rangers solid shots

Rangers were always going to be firm favourites, but it's perhaps something of a surprise to see them going off as short at 1/6 in places although there is some 1/5 available with bet365.

Dundee are as big as 12/1 with 10bet, while the draw is 11/2 with Unibet.

Recent head to heads: Costly draw for Gers

Although Rangers won three out of four meetings with Dundee last season scoring 13 goals in the process, they were held to an extremely costly goalless draw at Dens Park in April which contributed to their title collapse in the run-in.

Players to watch: Tom on target

Tom Lawrence was the Rangers hero at Dundee United last week with an excellent goal at the start of the match and he does have that in his locker. He is 6/4 to score anytime with bet365.

Simon Murray had a goal ruled out last week and the Dundee captain will want to make up for last week's loss at former club Ross County. He is 9/2 to score with bet365 anytime.

Predicted line-ups.:

Rangers are not far away from a full squad being available with only really Rabbi Matondo out for a period of time.

Dundee welcome back Charlie Reilly and Clark Robertson to their squad, but club captain Joe Shaughnessy is out long term.

Rangers: Butland, Tavernier, Souttar, Propper, Jefte, Sterling, Barron, Diomande, Lawrence, Bajrami, Dessers.

Dundee: McCracken, McGhee, Portales, Koumetio, Larkecke, Sylla, Mulligan, Cameron, Tiffoney, Palmer-Houlden, Murray

Anything else catch the eye?

Rangers should enjoy their homecoming and will surely play better than several games at Hampden, which wasn't a good fit.

They will face a Dundee side who surely will have a go in the quarter finals of a Cup competition and can score so the call here is for a Rangers win and both teams to score at 13/8 with bet365.

There's no reason why this should have plenty of goals in the contest and Rangers are due to score a few goals because they do create plenty of chances. Go for a home win and over 3.5 goals at 6/5 with bet365.
