Football Bet of the Day 23rd august

Following on from Friday’s winner in Buenos Aires, Saturday’s Football Bet of the Day sees focus on the South American World Cup Qualifiers once again, and I’ve come up with a way to get the Uruguayans on side.

⚽️ Uruguay 🇺🇾 vs Paraguay 🇵🇾

🌎 CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifiers

⏰ Saturday 7 September, 00:30

Uruguay will look to continue their impressive start to their World Cup Qualifying campaign as they welcome Paraguay to the Estadio Centenario in the early hours of Saturday morning in a fixture that I’m keen to back the hosts to collect all three points.

Uruguay began their World Cup qualifying campaign by winning just one of their opening three qualifiers (W1-D1-L1), but Marcelo Bielsa’s men have gone on to win each of their next three – including wins at home to Brazil and away at Argentina – to move them up into second position, just two points behind leaders Argentina.

La Celeste have won each of their opening three qualifiers on home soil, scoring seven goals and conceding just once in the process.

Despite remarkably scoring just one goal so far in qualification, Paraguay have picked up five points from their opening six qualifiers (W1-D2-L3), with all five of those points coming against the three sides below them in the table, with their solitary victory coming in a 1-0 home win over notoriously poor travellers Bolivia.

Gustavo Alfaro’s new side have already lost at home to Colombia (3rd) and away at both Argentina (1st) and Venezuela (4th), leaving them in seventh position, two points behind sixth-placed Brazil.

Bet of the Day

As already alluded to, Uruguay have won each of their opening three CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers on home soil, scoring seven times and conceding just once – and given Paraguay are winless in each of their previous 11 World Cup qualifiers away from home (W0-D4-L7), losing seven of their last eight and remarkably failing to even score in each of their previous 10 – I’m happy to back the Uruguayans on the -1 Asian Handicap.

This means if Uruguay wins by a single goal, we will receive our stakes back, whilst winning the match by two or more goals will reward a full payout.

  • Uruguay -1 Asian Handicap
  • Pays 47/50 (William Hill)
