Wednesday’s Football Tips: J League leaders Sanfrecce Hiroshima face tricky cup tie in Nagoya

It's slim pickings for punters again today, with the quarter-finals of the J.League Cup taking top billing.

Sanfreece Hiroshima are on course for a domestic treble as they sit top of the pile in the league, albeit only on goal difference from Machida Zelvia, and are also in the quarter-finals of the Emperor's Cup.

But they have a tricky tie on the road in the J.League Cup today, visiting Nagoya Grampus in the pick of the last-eight, first-leg matches.

Sanfrecce lifted the trophy two years ago and Betfred make them 9/10 favourites for a win tonight. But Nagoya Grampus are no mugs, sitting midtable in the top flight, so will be out to make home advantage count before the second leg.

Sanfrecce Hiroshima head into this game in terrific form, with wins in their last seven J League outings. One of those victories was a 2-1 triumph in Nagoya so it's no big surprise to see them as favourites tonight.

But they might prioritise a tight title race over glory in the cups while this tournament represents Nagoya's chance to salvage something from their season.

I'm expecting this to be close and Nagoya Grampus could offer a bit of value at 11/8 to win either half with Betfred. The half-time draw also looks good at 11/10.

Combining BTTS and over 2.5 goals pays 7/5 at Bet365 and that could be worth a punt too given it landed in the recent league meeting.

Yokohama F. Marinos vs Consadole Sapporo top tips

Yokoham F. Marinos are having a disappointing season in the league but remain on course for glory in both cups and are heavy favourites to see off Consadole Saporro.

Having finished either second or first in the top flight for the last three seasons, Yokohama sit just sixth this term and stand no chance of winning the title.

Their form has picked up of late though, with five wins in their last six league games, and they should be too strong for a Consadole side sitting second bottom of the table.

Marinos are just 4/7 for a first-leg win on home turf tonight but the odds increase to 11/8 if you back them to be winning at half-time and full-time.

It ended 3-2 to Yokohama when these sides faced off in the league a month ago so a Marinos win with over 2.5 goals also stands a chance at 19/20.

Albirex Niigata Albi vs Machida Zelvia top betting tips

Machida Zelvia have been the story of the Japanese season with Go Kuroda's side mounting a surprise title push in their first J League season.

The Tokyo club won the second tier last term and have continued that momentum, with a run of just one defeat in 13 games between May and July the bedrock of their title bid.

Machida Zelvia's form has tailed off a bit recently though and they've won just one of their last six in the league. Tonight's cup tie with Albirex Niigata gives them a chance to get back to winning ways and Betfred make them 13/10 favourites.

But the value might lie with Niigata at 15/8 given they have home advantage and are unbeaten in five league games. Their last outing was against Machida and that ended in a 0-0 draw so that's why under 2.5 goals is just 8/11 tonight.
