Sunday’s Football Tips: Celtic out to pile on the pain for reeling Hibernian in the SPFL Premiership

CHAMPIONS Celtic got off to a flying start in the SPFL Premiership last weekend and are heavy favourites to rack up another three points on the road at Hibernian today.

While the Hoops were easing to a 4-0 home win over Kilmarnock on flag day, the Hibees got their league campaign off to a terrible start with a 3-0 loss away to St Mirren.

That came after a shock defeat to League One side Kelty Hearts in the League Cup group stage so new Easter Road boss David Gray has got off to a poor start.

Betfred make Brendan Rodgers' men 3/10 hot favourites to pile on the misery for Hibs and Gray's players will need a big improvement on last week's performance to stand any chance.

Hibernian v Celtic top betting tips

Hibs fans can take some heart from the fact Easter Road hasn't been a happy hunting for Celtic – and Rodgers in particular. He failed to win there in three attempts during his first spell in charge and drew 0-0 in Leith last season before edging a 2-1 win with a last-gasp penalty.

However, Celtic have started the new campaign on fire and last week's 4-0 win followed a pre-season campaign where they netted four times or more in four of their five friendlies.

Going for goals looks a smart move today and over 3.5 strikes pays 11/10 at Betfred. Backing over 1.5 first-half goals also appeals at 11/10 with Bet365.

While the Hibees look ropey at the back they have plenty of firepower up front so combining BTTS and over 2.5 goals also stands a chance at evens with Bet365.

Aberdeen v St Mirren top tips

While Gray is suffering teething troubles at Hibs, the same can't be said of Jimmy Thelin at Aberdeen, with the Swede winning his first five matches.

The Dons looked pretty good in their 2-1 win over St Johnstone on Monday night and now face a St Mirren side coming off a gruelling European draw with Brann.

Betfred price the Dons at 10/11 and that looks decent value, even though the Buddies are always hard to beat under Stephen Robinson.

Ester Sokler should start again up front and he looks a little overpriced at 12/5 for anytime scorer after netting four times already this term.

Aberdeen new boy Sivert Nilsen looks like a good signing and the Norwegian has a bit of dig about him in midfield. He's 7/1 at Bet365 to be carded and that's a great long-odds option.

Kilmarnock v St Johnstone top tips

Kilmarnock are another team coming off a Thursday night European tie and St Johnstone will be hoping their opponents take their eye off the ball ahead of the second leg with Tromso.

Saints look set for a fight against the drop this term but they carry a greater threat up front than they did last season. That makes me think BTTS stands a chance here and it pays 10/11 with Bet365.

Corners are usually a good option with Derek McInnes' men and backing over five first-half flag kicks pays 6/5 at Bet365.

Sheffield Wednesday v Plymouth Argyle top tips

Sheffield Wednesday headed into the summer in high spirits after German gaffer Danny Rohl pulled off a great escape in the Championship.

They kick-off the new campaign against a team who also dodged the drop by their skin of their teeth – Plymouth Argyle. Wayne Rooney is now in the dugout for the Pilgrims but the bookies reckon his first game will end in defeat.

Betfred have the Owls as 5/6 favourites and backing them to be winning at half-time and full-time boosts the odds to 15/8.

Winger Olaf Kobacki is one of Rohl's summer recruits and looks decent value at 3/1 with Bet365 for a goal if he's handed a start.
