Tour Championship betting tips

The final event of this season's FedExCup regular season will take place this weekend at the Wyndham Championship in North Carolina. The event has been exclusively played at Sedgefield Country Club since 2008 and the par-70 course will host once again this year.

The event is important for a whole host of reasons. Firstly, it is the final chance for players to finish inside the top 70 in the FedExCup standings, which grants them qualification for the FedExCup Playoffs which start next week.

Secondly, it's also the final chance for players to finish inside the top 50 in the FedExCup standings, which automatically means they will play in the PGA Tour's signature events next season. These events are worth the most money to players (outside of the majors) and some big names, including Jordan Spieth, are in danger of missing out.

Although plenty is at stake, several of the game's biggest names don't have to worry about a thing this week with many of them safely inside the top ten. The ultimate aim over the coming weeks is to be inside the top 30 for the Tour Championship, something the likes of Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schaufelle and Rory McIlroy don't have to worry about given their current points tallies.

As a result, the field is very open this week. Let's take a look at who is best placed to have a good week in North Carolina.

Wyndham Championship betting tips

In recent years, this tournament has become a birdie-fest with the field generally shooting very low scores across 72 holes at Sedgefield. Eight of the last nine winners here have finished with a score of -20 or better, so strap yourselves in for another low-scoring week on the PGA Tour.

The course isn't long by any stretch of the imagination so power and distance off the tee is almost irrelevant. Players with a good short game typically do well here, so keeping the ball on the fairway off the tee if more important than launching it 300+ yards.

Eight out of the ten par 4s on this course measure between 400-450 yards meaning that most players will be playing approach shots from 150-175 yards on the majority of holes. Therefore, this a key metric to study this week in addition to prior form on the course.

Last week, our three picks for the Olympics golf all picked up a medal. Here are our picks for the Wyndham Championship.

Si Woo Kim E/W (Eight places) – 20/1

Si Woom Kim hasn't had a spectacular season on the PGA Tour but he has been steady enough. He has only missed one cut all season but on the flip side, he has only finished inside the top ten on one occasion. However, this is a course that he has excelled in over the years.

His first-ever win on the PGA tour came here in 2016 and he has finished inside the top five on three other occasions. He is currently ranked 36th in the FedExCup standings so there isn't any real pressure on him this week which should allow him to perform at this best.

Billy Horschel E/W (Eight places) – 22/1

Billy Horschel came painfully close to winning the Open Championship last month and this is his first outing since coming in a tie for 2nd at Royal Troon. The 37-year-old will be feeling confident coming into this week, not only after his brilliant performance in Scotland but also because of how well he has played here in the past.

Horschel has finished inside the top six at the Wyndham Championship on four occasions and ranks 2nd for round average around Sedgefield from 2018-2023.

Aaran Rai E/W (Eight places) – 25/1

Aaron Rai came very close to winning his first PGA event in three consecutive tournaments in June and July but ultimately came up just short in each one. Rai followed those three performances up with a disappointing showing at the Open but after two weeks off, he should now be refreshed and ready to go again.

Rai does perform well in weakened fields, as shown by his t2 finish at the Rocket Mortgage Classic and t7 finish at the John Deere Championship. He also has a game that suits Sedgefield – he ranks first for approach shots from 150-175 yards on the PGA Tour this season.
