Dominican Republic vs Uzbekistan

, KO: 14:00 Jul 30, 2024, Parc des Princes
Uzbekistan

THE Dominican Republic and Uzbekistan conclude their Olympics Group C campaign at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday afternoon.

Los Quisqueyanos earned their first and only point to date in their opening match when paying out a 0-0 draw against Egypt.

However, Ibai Gomez's side were unable to build on positive start against section heavyweights Spain on Saturday, with La Roja running out 3-1 winners.

That means the Dominican Republic must defeat Uzbekistan on matchday three and hope that already-qualified Spain fulfil their end of the bargain by doing them a favour against Egypt.

Uzbekistan, in contrast, have already been eliminated following back-to-back losses against Spain and Egypt.

As such, Timur Kapadze's team have nothing other than pride to play for in Paris on Tuesday, though are unlikely to offer their opponents a free pass to victory.

How the bookies view it: Dominican Republic rank outsiders

Despite losing both of their opening two Group C contests, Uzbekistan are 4/7 favourites on Bet 365.

The Dominican Republic are 15/4 (Bet 365) underdogs while the draw is also deemed unlikely at 3/1 (Bet 365). Given their greater need for the points, Los Quisqueyanos look worthy of support with +1 start on the Asian Handicap at 4/5 on Bet 365.

Head to head: A first meeting in France

This will be the first time that the two countries have ever crossed swords on the international football stage. That was also the case for the Dominican Republic in their opening two games of the tournament.

Players to watch: Shomurodov looking to strike

Eldor Shomurodov added to his record-extending goal tally for Uzbekistan by striking against Spain on matchday one. The Roma hitman will head the top of the anytime goalscorer betting going into Tuesday afternoon’s Group C curtain-closer.

Montes de Oca scored the Dominican Republic’s maiden goal of the tournament against Spain and he will be out to make his mark again with a view to firing his side to qualification.

Predicted line-ups

Given that this is essentially a dead rubber for Uzbekistan, manager Timur Kapadze may use this final group game as an opportunity to experiment and give some fringe players some game time.

After being sent off against Spain on Saturday, the Dominican Republic will be without the suspended Edizon Ascona.

Dominican Republic: Valdez, de Lucas, Pujol, Urbaez, Marian, Morschel, Messina, Nunez, Gonzalez, Lorenzo, Urena

Uzbekistan: Nematov; Mirsaidov, Khamraliev, Khusanov, Yuldashev; Buriev, Kholmatov; Fayzullaev, Jaloliddinov, Odilov; Shomurodov

Anything else catch the eye?

Given the dynamics of Group C, there is plenty of scope for an entertaining encounter in the French capital on Tuesday afternoon.

With that in mind, backing both teams to get on the scoresheet holds plenty of appeal at 4/5 with William Hill.

This bet would have paid out in both sides matchday two outings and the selection looks worth getting on board with again this midweek.
