THE group stage of the Scottish League Cup threw up a few shocks at the weekend and we could see some more tonight in the next round of games.
Two of the games we flagged up as potential shocks on Saturday delivered, with second-tier Falkirk beating Premiership side Dundee United and League Two East Fife battering Championship outfit Morton.
With these games replacing pre-season friendlies for some of the big boys you often get a few surprises, although such results are less likely the deeper you go into the group stage.
Hibernian didn't have any trouble in their opener as they crushed Elgin City 5-0 on the road, a promising start for David Gray in his first game as full-time gaffer.
But the Hibees will receive a bigger test tonight against Championship side Queen's Park, who also netted five times on the road in their Group C curtain-raiser against Peterhead.

Hibernian v Queen's Park Top Betting Tips
That five-goal show in Queen's Park first competitive game this term came in the wake of a bonkers friendly that saw them lose 6-4 against Premiership champions Celtic.
With Hibs looking ropey at the back last season, that makes this tie a potential banana skin, although Betfred price up the Spiders as 15/2 outsiders, with the home win paying just 1/4.
Going for goals is probably a safer bet and it's no real surprise to see over 2.5 strikes paying just 1/2, although adding BTTS boosts the odds to 102/100 at McBookie.
Dylan Vente will go into this game with confidence soaring after his weekend hat-trick and is evens at Betfred to grab another goal.
Arbroath v Dundee Top Tips
Dundee were the most impressive Premiership side at the weekend, smashing seven past Bonnyrigg to start the season in style.
They now make the short trip to Arbroath for their second Group D outing and shouldn't have too much trouble against a team still on a downer after relegation to League One.
The Red Lichties weren't in action on Saturday so it might take them a while to get going and backing Dundee to be winning at half-time and full-time pays a decent 10/11.
Curtis Main was another striker who bagged a treble in his opening game and the Dark Blues hitman is 11/10 at Bet365 for anytime scorer.
Shamrock Rovers v Vikingur Reykjavik Top Tips
There's also a few Champions League qualifiers tonight and the tie between Shamrock Rovers and Vikingur Reykjavik is balanced on a knife edge after a 0-0 draw in Iceland.
Rovers aren't in great form, with just three wins in their last 11 games, but that first-leg draw has left them in a good position for the return on Irish soil.
Betfred still make Vikingur slight favourites at 6/4, with Shamrock Rovers at 7/4, and it's a tough one to call. Going for the half-time draw looks the best option at 11/10

Southgate was paid £9 million to manage England, and was pretty mediocre. Fortunately, he’s decided NOT to renew his contract.
Jurgen Klopp was paid circa £15 million to manage Liverpool and has a proven track record of success. The England manager job would be a doddle for him – and probably like doing a part-time job after managing Liverpool.
Anyone with a brain cell would want Jurgen Klopp. So, expect the FA to appoint Eddie Howe🤣
One of those would be the expectation but reckon the FA have set there sights on Steve Bruce for a record breaking deal
It will be lee carsley the under 21 manager.
Appoint from within, yes man type of appointment.
Get a foreign manager in for the gig, someone with an expansive style that will best utilise the talent available.
When was the last time an English manager won anything of note? If it’s another Englishman it’ll be more woe and nothing will make it home no matter how many times they tell us
I’m not sure Jurgen would enjoy having to listen to German Bombers so much. 😂
Can’t imagine for one minute Klopp would be interested in the England job, he’d never go back to Germany!
In fairness to Southgate, he won the same as Revie, Greenwood, Venables, Robson, Eriksson, Capello, Hodgson, etc.
