Wimbledon gets underway today in London, and we couldn’t be more excited to suggest some wagers here at Mr Fixit Tips. If you’re in the market for some Wimbledon day one predictions, then read on, because we’ve analysed today’s matches and come up with three brilliant punts.
Best Wimbledon Predictions Today
These are the three bets that we say have the best value on day one of Wimbledon 2024:
Bolt to Beat Ruud @ 23/10
We say the big upset of the day on Monday will be Australia’s Alex Bolt upsetting No. 8 seed Casper Ruud in round one.
Bolt is ranked No. 234 and is a real journeyman on the ATP Tour. He’s never been inside the top 100, and spends most of his time trying to qualify for Challenger events. However, up against Ruud in the first round, we believe he’ll get the biggest win of his career.
Ruud has only ever won four matches on grass, with the Norwegian’s win rate sitting at an abysmal 36.4 percent. He’s uncomfortable on the surface movement-wise, and the heavy spin weapons he possesses are neutralised by the slick bounce. He’s also not played on grass at all this season.
Bolt, on the other hand, has already played 11 grass matches in the last month. He’s won his way through qualifying, and with a head of steam, we say he’ll upset Ruud.
Shapovalov to Beat Jarry @ 8/13
Denis Shapovalov is a former Wimbledon semi-finalist whose power-hitting is rewarded by the low bounce on the grass of London. He’s up against the big-serving Nicolas Jarry, who we expect he’ll defeat on Monday.
Technically Jarry should be a good grass player due to his serve and net play. However, it’s never clicked for the Chilean. Shapovalov, on the other hand, has started to get some tidy results in the past month. Back him to book his place in the second round.
Monfils to Beat Mannarino @ 8/15
We round out our Wimbledon day one predictions with an all-French affair. Gael Monfils and Adrian Mannarino–two likable veterans of the ATP Tour–square off in the opening round.
Usually, Mannarino would be our pick, given his expertise on grass. However, the Frenchman is in a rut at the moment, while Monfils is seeing the ball well. This should be a hugely entertaining affair between the two good friends.
There’s every chance this could go to five, so drop a wager on that too if you’re after some juicier odds. Whether it’s quick or an epic, we say Monfils gets it done against his compatriot.
