Racing Tips – Make It A Good Day With Blue Day At Southwell

My sole selection on Saturday was a losing one as Thunder Roar was unable to land a blow on the eventual winner. My selection did start to motor down the straight but the winner had already put countless lengths between himself and the field and It just wasn't possible.

I've two selections today which come from Southwell and Bath.

Blue Day 9/4 – Southwell 4:15

I thought a mark of 77 was more than workable for Blue Day as he makes his return to the track for his first run of the season.

The Harry Charlton yard are bang in form this year and he has proved already with Kikkuli and Hand Of God that he can get a horse ready to go after a break/layoff from the track.

I'm hoping Blue Day can follow the same trend as the horses named above as he makes his handicap bow in this contest after 6 months off the track.

Only raced three times so far in his career, Blue Day showed considerable promise as a juvenile. He finished fourth on his first two outings before taking a step forward on his last outing at Kempton which seen him finish second.

It's hard to fully judge the form of his last race as the winner Jarraff hasn't been seen since however the third placed Moswaat has since went on to be placed in Listed company.

Ciara Pearl 2/1 – Bath 3:55

Ciara Pearl looks a worthy favourite in this contest, bookmakers have her marked up at 2/1 and It could be a great bit of value in the end. She's a horse who has went from strength to strength since the start of her career with form figures of 21211. She returned from a 174 day break to make it two wins on the bounce and comes here in great form in search of a hat-trick.

Ciara Pearl beat the reopposing Hotaugustnight on her return at Lingfield three weeks ago. Jim Crowley gave her a lovely ride that day, he kicked off the bend to insure he got first run on Hotaugustnight and simply kept Ciara Pearl up to her work right to the line.

Ciara Pearl followed up the Lingfield run to win at Kempton under a penalty. She only won by a neck that day but Jim Crowley always looked in control of the race as he managed to hold off the runner up inside the final furlong. The runner up that day was Wadacre Grace who is a consistent performer at that sort of level. Wadacre Grace was also in decent form going into that contest.

My selection has been hit with a further 2 lb rise which looks more than manageable for this progressive and unexposed filly. Jim Crowley who rode her the last twice will not be on board which is a shame as he is racing over at Southwell on Sunday. David Probert has been booked for the ride on Ciara Pearl and as much as I'm not a massive fan of his, It wasn't enough to put me off her chances.
