Friday saw us land another winner with my main selection, Catch Him Derry, winning at advised odds of 2/1.
When I was doing my write-up, I thought 2/1 was great value for that selection, and it proved as he shortened into 5/6 overnight and won in the style that an odds-on shot should do.
I also had two other selections on Friday, one of which was a non-runner, as Molly Mischief refused to enter the stalls.
My other selection was Lasting Love, who was travelling on the bridle into the business end but found little when push came to shove and eventually finished third.
I have six selections for Saturday's racing, four of which come from the Scottish Grand National.
I've created a similar guide as I did with the English Grand National. The article includes my four plays in the race, but I will add them at the bottom of this article for those who may miss it or don't have time to give it a read-through.
Zoum Zoum 15/8 – Newbury 2:40
This is a cracking race and probably the race I'm looking forward to the most, as I'm more a fan of the flat than the jumps.
I was a bit disappointed to see Zoum Zoum so short in the market, as I was hoping he would be more of a 3/1 shot, but it is what it is.
I touched on this horse a couple of days ago in the same write up that I tipped up Kikkuli to win, so I may just be repeating what I've already said, but I do have to write something to fill the page up.
Unbeaten in his last three races, Zoum Zoum looks a really nice prospect for Ralph Beckett.
He won on debut when turning over Andrew Balding's 4/6 shot Imperial Guard; he then followed up his debut run when beating home Kikkuli at Newmarket, which now looks great form as Kikkuli has since gone on to go one better when getting the better of Charlie Appleby's Creative Story.
He then went to France to score in listed company. Elvis, a long-term contributor to the thread, enjoys French racing. He might be able to give you a little more depth into the listed win, but at a glance, it looks strong enough for what the race was on paper.
Army Ethos would be a major player if it could reproduce the second in the Coventry last year. That said, you might remember I tipped up a horse called Pocklington, who turned him over at 2/9. That was enough to put me off him, Army Ethos, but at the prices, he is probably the value play alongside Ballymount Boy.
Deeper Blue 13/2 – Ayr 1:50
I thought Deeper Blue was of interest in this race at the prices, although not getting his head in front, he has run some creditable runs in defeat, and he seems to be a horse whose improving anytime connections step him up in a trip.
He has finished second on his previous two outings, most notably at Hereford, where he finished behind Henry's Friend. The form of that second now reads well as Henry's Friend has since gone on to land the Reynoldstown Novices' Chase at Ascot, where he got the better of the likes of Kilbeg King and Lucinda Russels' Apple Away.
He then followed up the Hereford run with another good effort when second behind Neon Moon and nine and a half lengths clear of the third Abuffalosoldier.
Harry Fry has his horses in good form at present, and I think stepping Deeper Blue up in trip further could prove the right move. He is a horse who travels well, and with a lot of expected pace on show, he should get something to aim at and hopefully get his head in front after hitting the crossbar on his last two outings.
SCOTTISH NATIONAL……
Elvis mail 🏇.
20-1 bet365 ew extra 10 places
50-1 ew 6 places bet365 (smaller stake)
got a fairly big weight 11-3, but is in form and is 2/3 in chases here.
Be surprised if he gets round that he wouldn’t finish top 10.
He pulled out last year because of drying ground so hopefully it stays soft as it is today.

Amphius 3.50 Newbury
Will go very close today. Big run expected from connections. Yards 3 year old are in very good order. 5 wins from 11 runners this season so far.
All the money will go on the favourite. He holds Dante and Derby entries. Form of his run at Newmarket has been franked by the first 3. Has shortened from 7/4 into about even money overnight. Its known this horse needs the run today, he’s not even close to 100% ready. It’s all about the bigger races, this is just a pipe opener for him today. He will no doubt still go close nevertheless, but at the current odds, that too short. There’ll be plenty out to get him today as plenty know he needs this run today.
Should get a drift on Amphius so held out on backing it at opening show. Currently 9/2 but I’m hoping for maybe 6s ( if I’m lucky).
Little stat for anyone for today/coming weeks. Jeremy Scott has has 7 winners from his last 10 chasers . He runs Bampton Star today there which looks a real improving sort. Wind op and the switch to fences clearly worked the oracle. Currently around 2/1, I’m at the track today so will get a good look at him before I make a decision to play. Can pick holes in all the field so I do think he wins again today. He ran well at Lingfield which is obviously left handed as well.
Have a lovely weekend everyone, Chris.
Your inside info is absolutely chite Dean
Folk are so gullible on here and desperate for someone to pick them a winner they will believe any shite our Dean writes 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
From yesterday’s thread
Scottish National
Mr Vango 16/1 ew 6 places
Was beaten 25L by Corbetts Cross in the NHC at the festival off level weights.
Corbetts Cross is rated 165 and the top weight here is Stay Away Fay off 157 but this time Mr Vango gets 23lbs from him.
Providing the run at Cheltenham hasn’t left its mark should have every chance off that mark.
Best priced 12’s now.
Other bets
2.25 Leau Du Sud 3/1
3lbs higher than when 2nd in the County but is surely still well h’capped based on that run.
However, I do think First Street 8/1 is a danger with the Yard in much better form now. Has had a wind op since his last run so an ew saver on him too.
3.00 Larchmount Lass 7/2
Based on last run should relish the extra distance and will surely win races running off 113, hopefully it starts today.
