Crewe vs Wrexham

, KO: 15:00 Apr 20, 2024, Mornflake Stadium
Wrexham

After confirming promotion last weekend, Wrexham return to action with a trip to Crewe on Saturday. The Welsh side have been imperious lately, even in their travels and should have the upper hand over their hosts, who are struggling at the moment.

Crewe appear to be going through a rough patch having picked up just one win from their last seven matches. They remain in the mix for the promotion playoffs but need to be wary of fast rising Wallsall, who are just outside the top seven.

Lee Bell’s men are coming off a 3-0 home defeat to Grimsby Town in their previous League Two fixture. They were second best throughout the encounter and finished with just two attempts on target.

The defeat to Grimsby Town was not a one off as they were also beaten 3-0 by Forest Green Rovers in their previous fixture at Mornflake Stadium. Both results mean Crewe have now claimed just one win from their last six League Two home matches.

Wrexham will travel to Mornflake Stadium on a high after securing promotion to League One. It is now back to back promotions for the club co-owned by Ryan Reynolds, having played in the National League last season.

The Welsh side secured their promotion in fine style as they ran out 6-0 winners over Forest Green Rovers in their previous League One fixture. Phil Parkinson’s men are unbeaten in five of their last six matches, claiming four wins in that run.

Wrexham have also impressed on their recent travels, winning three of their last four away matches. However, they are often unconvincing defensively having failed to keep a clean sheet in their last 11 matches on the road.

How the bookies view it

Wrexham have the slight edge among the bookies and are priced at 11/8 by bet365 to claim the win. A victory for Crewe is valued at 19/10 by BoyleSports while a draw is set at odds of 5/2 by William Hill.

Recent head to head

Both teams have met twice this season with Wrexham unbeaten across both matches. The reverse fixture ended in a 3-3 draw while the Welsh side ran out 3-0 winners in an EFL Trophy fixture at Mornflake Stadium back in October.

Players to watch

Elliott Nevitt is the leading scorer for Crewe with 15 League Two goals and will be the one to watch on Saturday. The forward is priced at 12/5 by bet365 to get on the score sheet.

Paul Mullin has been one of the standout players for Wrexham, scoring 23 League Two goals this season. The striker also netted a brace in the reverse fixture and is priced at 7/4 by William Hill to maintain his scoring run.

Anything else catch the eye?

It was a six-goal thriller in the reverse fixture and another high-scoring encounter could be expected here. Over 3.5 goals is priced at 19/10 by BetVictor while over 2.5 goals is valued at 3/4 by Unibet.

Wrexham have scored in both halves in their last two matches and a similar pattern is priced at 12/5 with Unibet.
