ASTON VILLA will be looking to tighten their position in fourth spot in the the Premier League table by claiming three points against Luton Town at Kenilworth Road on Saturday evening.
After hitting a bit of a sticky patch following their returning from their winter break, Unai Emery’s side have got their quest for Champions League qualification back up and running in recent weeks.
The Villians battled to a hard-fought 2-1 win at Fulham a fortnight ago and they have since recorded a 4-2 success against Nottingham Forest.
Seeking to cement their position in the top four, Villa will be targeting a third league win on the spin when they head to Luton this weekend.
The 18th-placed Hatters’ relegation fears have heightened following a run of three straight defeats coupled with Everton’s point deduction being reduced from 10 points to six.
Last time out, Rob Edwards’ side were eliminated from the FA Cup by an Erling Haaland-inspired Man City in a 6-2 rout.
Outright Betting
Luton, who have won just one of their last seven matches across all competitions, are 3/1 (Ladbrokes) outsiders while an all square affair can be backed at 16/5 (UnIbet).
Aston Villa came out on top in the reverse fixture and they are odds-on 4/5 (Betfred) favourites to repeat the trick at Kenilworth Road.
Betting Angles
Aston Villa are difficult to trust at such short odds-on prices so I’ll instead opt for a player-based selection and back Ollie Watkins to score anytime at 6/5 on Ladbrokes.
Villa hitman Watkins has roared back into form in recent weeks, having netted five goals across his last five Premier League appearances.
That recent goal haul means the Aston Villa attacker has now netted 14 goals in 26 top-flight appearances this season to date, and he’ll fancy his chances of adding to that tally against what is a leaky Luton team.
Rob Edwards’ rearguard have failed to record a clean sheet in 23 of their 25 Premier League games this season so far, with 11 of the 13 sides to pitch up at Kenilworth Road notching at least once.
That doesn't augur well ahead of a visit from an Aston Villa side that have only been outscored in the Premier League this season by title-chasing trio Liverpool, Man City and Arsenal.
With all that in mind, backing Villa’s top scorer to hit the back of the net against the Hatters on Saturday evening holds plenty of appeal at 6/5 on Ladbrokes.
I’ll also be waiting to see who starts at left-back for Aston Villa, with the likely candidates being either Alex Moreno or Lucas Dinge, and I'm prepared to back either player to pick up a card at 6/1 (SkyBet) and 9/2 (UniBet) respectively.
Whoever gets the nod should have their hands full with Chiedozie Ogbene, who has been causing his direct opponents all sorts of problems in recent weeks.
