ARSENAL resume their Premier League title pursuit when they entertain Newcastle United at the Emirates on Saturday night.
Mikel Arteta’s men have re-entered the top-flight title race following a blistering start to 2024, winning their last five league games and banging in 21 goals for good measure.
Last weekend the Gunners put in another lethal display by thrashing Burnley 5-0 at Turf Moor, on an afternoon where both of my recommended bets landed in Lancashire.
However, Arsenal’s recent hot-steak came grinding to a halt in the Champions League on Wednesday night when going down 1-0 away at Porto.
As for Newcastle, they have blown hot and cold in recent weeks, having won two and drawn two of their last four league games.
Eddie Howe’s eighth-placed side came from behind twice to rescue a point at home to Bournemouth last Saturday but it would be fair to say they face a much sterner test this weekend.
Outright Betting
Arsenal are red-hot 4/11 favourites on Bet 365 to make it six Premier League wins in succession.
Newcastle toppled Arsenal in November’s reverse fixture but the same outcome on Saturday night is as big as 7/1 (Bet 365) while all square affair at the Emirates can be backed at 9/2 (William Hill).
Betting Angles
Rather than siding with Arsenal at the aforementioned price, I’m going to instead back the hosts to avoid defeat and alongside both Dan Burn and Bruno Guimarães to commit a foul at 4/5 (Bet 365).
The Gunners can ill-afford to stumble here given that they are trying to keep pace with both Liverpool and Man City.
Whilst Mikel Arteta’s men should get the job on Saturday night, Newcastle can keep this contest competitive, so much so that I’m going to opt for the added insurance of the hosts on the double chance.
For the second leg of the Bet Builder, I’ll go with Newcastle’s Dan Burn to commit a minimum of foul during this Saturday night showdown.
The Magpies left-back is averaging one foul per-game in the Premier League this season and that trend should continue here given that he is likely to be keeping tabs on Bukayo Saka.
Moving into the middle of the park, I’ll round off the selection with Newcastle's Bruno Guimarães to also get on the wrong side of the referee on at least once occasion at the Emirates
The all-action Brazilian, who is sure to be in the thick of the action, averages 1.3 fouls per 90 in the top-flight this term, tackling himself into trouble in 16 of his 24 appearances to date.
Elsewhere, I make no apology for once again putting up Bukayo Saka in the To Score or Assist market at 4/5 on PaddyPower.
This bet would have paid out in each of Saka’s last six Premier League appearances and I see no reason to oppose a repeat against a Newcastle side without a clean sheet in their last 10 top-flight tussles.
