SERGO GARCIA did us proud with a blemish free seven-under 65 on the last day to win the Qatar Masters last weekend after a play-off with Mikko Illonen.
It was the second year running Garcia had a final-day flourish only this time he won after being tipped at 8-1.
Rory McIlroy must be the main bet this week in the Omega Dubai Desert Classic. After losing two weeks ago by one after a two-shot penalty he’ll be up to make amends.
Rafa Cabrera Bello looks another good one. He has finished third and fourth in the first two competitions of the “Desert Swing” and can be there or thereabouts at the Emirates Golf Club. He’s had six sub-70 rounds in his last two competitions so likes the desert courses.
I also have an inkling for Joos Luiten who I backed for the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship two weeks ago. He didn’t play badly at all there in finishing sixth and could go a bit higher this week.
Thorbjorn Olesen is one I have been keeping my eye on in the past year and has the potential to be a real star. He didn’t have a good Abu Dhabi tournament but last week had four sub-70 rounds to finish tied for third and looks like coming into form.
He had a good early season in the desert last year finishing 2nd, 22nd and tied for third in this tournament behind Stephen Gallacher.
Meanwhile, over at the Phoenix Open three times winner Phil Mickelson, Brandt Snedeker, Hunter Mahan and Bubba Watson are all here to take on the Scottsdale Course.
After tipping Mickelson last week I am tempted again this week and I'll be on as long as he displays no problems after suffering from back trouble.
Snedeker was runner-up last year and although he’s not had a great start to this season he could go close again.
Graham DeLaet has had a steady start to the season with three top-10 finishes, including a second last week, so could be worth an each way.

i find it hard not to back him every week. His game should be perfect for this course,He was on average about 10th in putting last week. and The par 5s in are where he will be at his best this week.

got a real feeling about the German this week. This course should be the perfect fit for him and he has had two top 5 finishes here in 2012 and 2004. and last week in Qatar he was never outside the top 10 in putts there are several reasons to expect an improved showing in Dubai.In Qatar he didn’t find nearly enough fairways and the thick rough meant he was always going to struggle to hit greens and make birdies. this course is more forgiving

can’t ignore him at such high odds. For someone to play so well last week and still get these odds definitely a form player he had accurate iron-play through last week. And he has finished 6th on this track before.

has started season in fine form and can continue that run in Dubai. He has finished 9-T10-T33 in his last three starts, shooting only two rounds over par during that period.had to settle for a top-ten finish in abu
dhabi.in 34 ‘Desert Swing’ events he has made the cut 31 times.

My each way tip in the Phoenix Open is Brendan Steele at around 66/1. He has finished in top 6 last two years.

couldn’t capitalize on some superb golf last week to grab the win, that T2 was a solid performance. He was the other golfer to finish T1 for GIR, 1st for proximity to the hole and 16th in driving distance.
