AC Milan are aiming to maintain their recent resurgence as they host struggling Salernitana in a Monday night Serie A fixture.
Milan will head into Monday’s clash on a high after progressing to the quarter-finals of the Champions League. They played out a 0-0 draw with Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday but a 1-0 victory in the first leg was enough to see them through.
The Rossoneri will now turn their attention to Serie A matters and their quest for a top four finish. Although Stefano Pioli’s men were beaten 2-1 at Fiorentina in their previous Serie A fixture, they will be confident of a swift return to winning ways having been victorious in the previous three matches.
AC Milan have been on the road in the last two matches and return to the San Siro where they have done their best work lately. They have won their last three home matches across all competitions, keeping clean sheets in all three wins.
The task for Salernitana for the rest of the campaign will be to keep their head above water and avoid the drop this season. They are currently 16th on the standings, seven points above the bottom three and will be keen to increase that gap.
However, the problem for Salernitana is that they have struggled to find their best form lately with just two wins in their last 10 matches across all competitions. Paulo Sousa’s men have suffered six defeats in that run while also failing score in four of their last five matches.
Things are just as rough for Salernitana on their travels having claimed just one win from their last six Serie A away matches. They have been beaten four times in that run and have also failed to score in their last two matches on the road.
How the bookies view it
The bookies have installed AC Milan as overwhelming favourites with a home win priced at 2/7 with SBK. A victory for Salernitana is valued at 13/1 by BetVictor while a draw is set at odds of 6/1 by bet365.
Head to head
AC Milan have never lost to Salernitana with four wins and a draw from five previous matches. The Rossoneri claimed a 2-1 victory in the reverse fixture back in January.
Players to watch
The trio of Pierre Kalulu, Fikayo Tomori and Malick Thiaw have been pivotal to AC Milan’s recent good form by helping them tighten up at the back. All three men are expected to feature on Monday and can lead the hosts to a fourth straight home clean sheet at 4/5 with Coral.
At the other end of the pitch, AC Milan will be looking to Rafael Leao to snap out of his dry spell and add to his eight Serie A goals this season. The forward was on target in the reverse fixture and is priced at 7/4 by BetVictor to find the net on Monday.
Anything else catch the eye?
Given AC Milan’s solid defence at San Siro and with Salernitana struggling for goals at the moment, BTTS NO can be considered at 7/10 with BetVictor. Having won to nil in their last three home matches, AC Milan could be set for a similar outcome at evens with Paddy Power.
AC Milan scored in both halves in their previous home fixture in Serie A and could be set for a similar outcome at 20/21 with BoyleSports.
