After suffering a rare defeat last time out, Napoli will be targeting a swift return to winning ways when they host Atalanta on Saturday in Serie A.
Napoli are coming off their first home defeat of the season as they were beaten 1-0 by Lazio in their previous Serie A fixture. They were unlucky as they had more of the chances, with Victor Osimhen even crashing a header off the crossbar.
The good news for Napoli is that they are still 17 points clear at the top of the standings and will consider that result a minor blip. They had claimed eight straight wins across all competitions prior to that defeat, keeping seven clean sheets in that run.
The defeat to Lazio was also the first for Napoli at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, which has been a fortress all season. However, Luciano Spalletti’s men have not been as solid defensively at home with just one clean sheet in the last five Serie A matches.
Atalanta have been on a downward spiral in recent times and have claimed just one win in their last six matches across all competitions. They have suffered four defeats in that run and have slipped to sixth on the table, five points off the Champions League places.
The Bergamo club travel to Naples off the back of a 0-0 home draw with Udinese last time out in Serie A. That was the second straight game without a goal for Gian Piero Gasperini’s men, who suffered a 2-0 defeat to AC Milan in their previous fixture.
Atalanta have also been erratic on their travels with two wins and as many draws and defeats in their last six away matches in Serie A. However, they will look to take some confidence from a recent 2-0 victory at Lazio.
