Fulham vs Southampton

, KO: 15:00 Dec 31, 2022, Craven Cottage
Southampton

Fulham are aiming to build on their big Boxing Day win as they host struggling Southampton in a Premier League fixture on Saturday. The Saints are still on a downward spiral and should find things difficult at Craven Cottage.

Fulham were victorious in their previous Premier League fixture as they beat Crystal Palace 3-0 on Boxing Day. They were helped by two red cards to Palace and secured the win thanks to goals from Bobby Decordova-Reid, Tim Ream and Aleksandar Mitrovic.

It was a solid return to winning ways for Fulham, who had lost their way prior to the international break. Marco Silva’s men are now up to ninth on the table and will be keen to establish themselves as a proper top ten side.

Another reason for confidence ahead of Saturday’s clash is Fulham’s home record this season as they have lost just once in their last five Premier League matches at Craven Cottage. They have claimed some impressive wins in front of their fans, including a 3-0 victory over Aston Villa and have also beaten the likes of Brentford and Brighton & Hove Albion.

Southampton continued their downward trajectory as they were beaten 3-1 at home by Brighton & Hove Albion in their previous Premier League fixture. They fell three goals down before James Ward-Prowse netted a consolation midway through the second half.

That result means Southampton have not claimed just one win from their last 11 Premier League matches. They have lost the last four in that run and are now rooted to the bottom of the table, two points from safety.

Nathan Jones’ men have lost their last two away matches and were beaten 3-1 by Liverpool in their previous fixture on the road.

The bookies have installed Fulham as overwhelming favourites with a home win priced at 21/20 by 10bet. A victory for Southampton is valued at 14/5 by Unibet while a draw is set at odds of 13/5 by Coral.

Head to head

Southampton have a 9-5 advantage with eight draws from 22 previous matches against Fulham. The last meeting between both teams was a Premier League fixture in 2021 which ended 2-1 in favour of the Saints.

Players to watch

Aleksandar Mitrovic took his tally for the season to nine Premier League goals with his effort at Crystal Palace. As always the Serbian striker will be the one to watch for Fulham and is priced at 11/10 with Paddy Power.

Che Adams remains the top scorer for Southampton with four goals and will be the one to watch on Saturday. The striker opened the scoring in the last meeting with Fulham and is priced at 11/4 with bet365.

Anything else catch the eye?

There were over 3.5 goals in the last meeting between Fulham and Southampton and a repeat is priced at 23/12 by SBK. Over 2.5 goals is valued at 4/5 with William Hill, who are also offering 4/6 on both teams to score.
