THERE'S a full English card on Thursday as well as Scottish Premiership fixtures so let's hope we can give bookies a real stuffing.

I've been putting together a Super Singles shortlist over the past few weeks and it helps when fans in particular make a relevant comment about their own team – for or against.

Biggest game of the day is Man City v Liverpool and although a Luis Suarez-inspired Anfield outfit top the table it's impossible to back against City at home. Hopefully we'll get something similar to the 6-3 Arsenal game and it certainly looks full of goals.

City are too short for the Super Single shortlist as are other Premier League favourites such as Chelsea, Man Utd, Everton, Newcastle, Spurs and Arsenal. Bookies will be in trouble if they all win.

The good news is Derby are over evens at Huddersfield and are well capable of making it eight wins in a row.

Brighton at Charlton and QPR at Nottm Forest are possibilities while in League One what about Preston at Carlisle and Orient at Gillingham.

Southend at Wimbledon, Scunthorpe at Bury and Torquay at home to Bristol Rovers are my initial thoughts from League Two. Both these League Two picks have been shot down by Bury and Torquay fans so unlikely to appear.

And in Scotland I like Kilmarnock at Hearts, Inverness away to Partick Thistle and Hibs at Ross County. Aberdeen are evens at home to Motherwell.

Good work Mr F! Just finished looking through the Boxing day card! It’s tough looking but their is definitely value to be had if you can hit the right double or treble! Little in the way if shorter priced homes!

    Thoughts so far:

    Sheffield United
    Rochdale
    Aberdeen
    Wigan over 1.5 goals
    Brighton over 1.5 goals

Off topic here but I put money on FGS in the arsenal game with coral. Will I get my stake back seeing as there were no FGS? I understand you can bet on no goalscorer therefore my bet may stand. I know for In play betting you get your stake back if you bet next goalscorer and there is none.

    Thanking you in advance.

ABERDEEN 10/11 @ home to Motherwell
DUNDEE UTD 10/11 away to St Mirren

Aberdeen v Motherwell games are usually tight and draws are fairly common, however Aberdeen are a different side under McInnes and they have the quality to push on this season for 2nd place.

2 stick out prices for me.

Well.. Arsenal always beat the Irons at Upton Park and usually I’d be backing against my team, painful though that is. But Ive a feeling they might give em a good game with Arsenal not creating many chances in last couple of games. So i’d say steer clear of The Arse. Would love to beat them.

Been having a good run on 2+ goal multiples of late, so I’m sticking with this market over the usually unpredictable festive period. Boxing day’s bet is as follows

    DERBY @ 11/10

Derby are on fire at the moment with 15 goals in their last 5 games. They have also scored 2+ in 4 of their last 5 away days. Huddersfield just don’t do clean sheets at home, with just 1 in 12 at home this season

    LEYTON ORIENT @ 10/11

Scored 2+ in 4 of their last 5 games away from home, while opponents Gillingham have conceded 2+ in 4 of their last 5 games. Orient won 3-1 here in September in the JPT

    KILMARNOCK @ 11/8

Killie have a great record here, winning on the last 5 visits! Hearts have been leaking goals of late, shipping 2+ goals in 7 of the last 8 games at Tynecastle

    DUNDEE UTD @ 4/5

Utd have scored 4+ in 5 of their last 6 matches. A 1-0 win over Ross County in their last game the only time they’ve failed to net twice in that run. St Mirren have improved recently, but have lost their last 2 games 3-0 & 2-0. They also lost 4-0 to Utd earlier in the season

    The four-fold pays a tasty 16/1

    The above to score 3+ is 420/1 (3/1, 5/1, 5/2 & 4/1) so going on a small stakes yankee on that also. 2/4 guarantee’s a small profit.

GRIMSBY! GRIMSBY! GRIMSBY! Did I mention Grimsby there? Away to local rivals Lincoln who have only won once in the Conference since September. WARNING! I mentioned at the weekend not backing against Barnsley when playing at Leeds. A team I NEVER back against is Bury. They sit second bottom of their league, but, if things had gone their way in some matches they’d be further up their league. They fear absolutely no one and battle like tigers.

Yes John Boy. Just looked at the stats for the teams over the last few weeks, and they back up what you say. Grimsby won five of their last six. Available at a top price of 7/5. Definitely worth considering.

Ah Bury! remember it as thought it was yesterday although it must be about 28yrs ago.I was waiting on Bury for a ten team acca, listening on the radio it was a late result, but I knew they were winning 1.0 with one minute to play,it took about 20 mins before they got round to reading it out and it was that guy who used to read it out,you know the script “Bury 1 pause whoever 1” it would have been over £100 a lot of money back then,my ex wife came running through to the kitchen as she thought something had blown up!but it was the noise of the tranny being kicked across the room by my good self.

Brentford look good at EVENS at home to Swindon. They have won 9 out of their last 10 games, in which the other was a 0-0 draw with Wolves who lie 2nd in the table. Their last game was a 3-0 win away at Preston.

Brentford currently 3rd with Swindon not too far behind in 7th.

Brighton also looks great at 6/4, playing a lot better in the last 3 weeks against tougher teams.

My weekend super single derby -2 was buggered up when martin missed the penalty. the game could easily of been a cricket score as derby looked deadly everytime they got the ball but left gaps at the back to exploit. Derby are still on course for my predicted 10 game winning streak and @ 6/5 with bet365 unless its changed price again looks to be nailed on. Even though Huddersfield away is as good a test as we’ve had this past 2 months, we’re 3 points from the top and plenty of the top 6 are playing eachother. Confidence is sky high and nobody in the league wants to play us. I still think we’ll be top of the league before we play leicester in january.

Hi All, I’m a massive Derby fan, been watching them all season. As much as it pains me to say I really don’t believe we will win at Huddersfield on Boxing Day, with Richard Keogh out (who is our heart of defence) injured on Saturday, the defence looked shaky without him, as good a player Michael Keane is, he is still inexperienced and with the likes of Norwood, Hammill and Vaughan coming at us, we will find it difficult. My honest opinion is that a draw is the likely result @ 9/4. Thanks

    • Avatar of Mr Fixit
      Mr Fixit 11 years ago

Andrew, the thing about Derby is the run has to end at some points. Two Derby fans on here – one goes Derby win and the other a draw. It’s putting me off them a little bit.

The thing with Derby and Keogh injured is he’s not as good as people think. with barker injured, buxton has joined keogh in central defence. Now that keane has a chance to pair up with buxton, i see the heart of defence as much the same standard as before. the reason that derby are winning is that we have transformed our own mentallity from a 4-5-1 away and a 4-4-1-1 at home team to a rigid 4-3-3 attacking team both home and away. we are no longer holding back against teams of equal stature, the team is set up for creating and scoring goals. Sure, we’ll probably concede goals as we’ve hardly been a clean sheet team for 15 years, but we are very free scoring. the goals and chances coming mainly from martin/ward/dawson and bryson in midfield. we barely score at set pieces which isn’t really our strength ( we’re a vertically challenged team ). Last game Theo Robinson missed a 1 on 1. 3 passes and 10 seconds later we were 2-0 up.
Its by no accident that for the last 4 games, we’ve been the highest scorers in the league, home or away it makes no odds, best form in the league over the last 5/6/7 and 8 games and over the whole of europe ( every league ) we are 4th on form over the last 7 games. We also have the best away record in the league, are 3 points from the leaders and i believe we have scored more on the road than huddersfield have scored at home. I’m not jumping on a handicap result this weekend as it could be a tough game. The freescoring nature of our side suggests again there will be goals for derby, but to keep this run going and to set us up nicely for a win with barnsley, i would expect derby to win and would be greatful for a 1 goal winning margain.

Nathan, I would take a one goal margin but this run will end sooner or later and just feel Huddersfield away is probably the place, they have some good attacking players in Vaughan, Norwood and Hammill. Id be delighted with 3 points but wouldn’t complain at 1 point considering. We do have a better all round team but just have a feeling in my gut that it will be a draw. Come on you rams though!

    My acca for Boxing Day is;
    Man City
    Brighton
    Brentford
    Rotherham
    Preston
    Grimsby
    Macclesfield

MrF, why am I suprised to not see Man city vs Liverpool- over 3.5 goals, as a candidate for the super single? With two of the best attacks in the premiership, with arguably, two of the shakiest defences too.. Surely, over 3.5 goals is a great bet at 5/4 (betvictor). The odds are shortening up as we speak via oddschecker.

I like Millwall double chance at just above evens, considering Watford have lost or drawn their last 10 matches and Millwall have beaten the likes of Leeds, Wigan and Blackpool aswell as drawing with Forest, Burnley Reading and QPR I reckon that the 21/20 is justification enough for a win or the draw. Good luck and hope you all had a good Christmas

Mark 1976, by all accounts Millwall were rubbish losing at home to Middlesbrough last weekend so not one for me. They seem to be very inconsistent.

Burton v Northampton Town 3PM KO

Burton boss Gary Rowett will check on Damien McCrory ahead of the visit of managerless Northampton.

McCrory was withdrawn at half-time during the 1-1 draw with Hartlepool on Saturday after sustaining a hamstring problem and the defender is a doubt for Boxing Day. Zander Diamond will replace the 23-year-old Irishman, as he did at Victoria Park, should McCrory not be fit to face the Cobblers.

Rowett made three changes to his side at Hartlepool, resting striker Rene Howe and not risking midfielders Lee Bell (hamstring) or Alex MacDonald (virus).

Bell and MacDonald should both be fit in time for the visit of Northampton, who sacked Aidy Boothroyd on Saturday evening after a 4-1 home defeat to Wycombe, while Howe will be fresh for the clash.

Andy King takes charge of his first match as Northampton caretaker manager on Boxing Day as the struggling outfit head to promotion-chasing Burton.

King is in temporary charge of the Cobblers following Aidy Boothroyd’s sacking in the wake of Saturday’s 4-1 home reverse to Wycombe – which left the club propping up the Football League.

And King, formerly assistant manager, is thrown straight in at the deep end following injuries to Mathias Kouo-Doumbe, Ian Morris and Clive Platt – each of whom have been ruled out for around a month.

Winger Stuart Dallas has also been recalled by parent club Brentford on Monday – forcing King to himself recall Cobblers trio Ben Tozer, Matty Harriott and David Moyo from their loans elsewhere.

    4/5 with bet 365
