We've been here before with Scotland, much of the hard work done and just one game away from success.
All too often it ends in glorious failure but there's a growing sense of confidence and expectation among Steve Clarke's squad and they're more than capable of getting the draw or better against Ukraine this evening that would secure promotion to the top tier of the Nations League and arguably more importantly, a crack at qualification for Euro 2024 via the play-offs.
Unfortunately for Clarke his squad is falling apart around him. Already without the services of captain Andy Robertson he's been dealt further blows with injuries to Nathan Patterson, Scott McTominay, Scott McKenna and Kieran Tierney ruling them out of the trip to Poland. Strikers Che Adams and Lyndon Dykes are also doubtful apparently having taken ill after Saturday's win over Republic of Ireland.
Those ommisions leave a massive hole in Scotland's starting XI so their depth of squad will be stretched to the limit and the pendulum could have swung in Ukraine's favour.
Ukraine got things back on track with a 4-0 win away to Armenia on Saturday and will feel they didn't do themselves justice at Hampden. They're capable of much better than we saw in Glasgow on Thursday and it would be a massive shot in the arm for the country of they finish in top spot following the disappointment of missing out on the World Cup at the final play-off hurdle to Wales.
Only a win will do for the Ukrainians and that's an 11/10 shot at Bet365. For Scotland it's simple; avoid defeat. A Scots win or draw is available at 4/6. It could be best to hold off until the line-ups are confirmed before get involved in this one but at this stage Ukraine look the bet.
Group B4 is another which goes to the wire tonight. Norway and Serbia are tied on 10 points apiece but it's the Norwegians who have the upper hand going in to tonight's clash in Oslo. They top the table on the head-to-head thanks to a 1-0 win in Belgrade at the start of the campaign.
It's impossible to look at this game and not mention Erling Haaland. The Man City striker has scored in four of the five Nations League matches so far and scored six of Norway's seven goals. At just 22 he's already scored a remarkable 21 goals in 22 international appearances so when you're getting better than evens on him to find the net it's always worth taking.
Group A2 has also thrown up final day showdown at the top of the table where Portugal host Spain, with the visitors needing a win to nick top spot. The Portuguese lead their neighbours by two points so they just need to avoid defeat to earn a place in the finals and a shot at winning this tournament for a second time.
The bookies make the Spanish win a 12/5 shot. Despite sitting second in the group Luis Enrique's side have failed to impress during this campaign, dropping two points at home to Portugal, nicking a late point in Prague, then losing 2-1 to Switzerland on Saturday to hand the advantage to their Iberian rivals.
Portugal are well equipped to get the job done tonight but are just 3/10 to avoid defeat. Experienced Italian whistler Daniele Orsato is the man in charge and he's not shy of a card or two. He dished out an average of 5.89 yellows per game last season and in a game where there might be odd bit of time-wasting, or tactical fouling the 6/5 on over 4.5 cards looks tempting.

Macca any chance of looking into that managerial crystal ball and telling us who’s gonna get the sack first
Bilic or Southgate?
Southgate is on his last legs, bereft of ideas, too stubborn in his loyalty to the players that have done well in past games.
They are awful and I think he will resign either way after the World Cup. It’s not unthinkable for England to drop points against both Wales and USA, though I would imagine luck will get him through that and possibly to the quarters where France probably await (if they don’t also implode).
If I was having a punt on a manager to go (and he doesn’t particularly deserve to) it would be Eddie Howe, more because Tuchel and Pochetino are available then for any failings.
He might go of his own accord if he gets offered the England job.
No chance Howe is leaving anytime soon. I certainly wouldn’t swap Howe for Tuchel or Poch but I’m not a Newcastle fan
Macca / Tierney is the best left back for Scotland and Robertson being injured probably best hing that’s happened
Whats that got to do with England,Southgate not playing Trent is unforgivable,Harry Maguire is a laughing stock and he still picks him.Again when you look at Tierney v Robertson what has Tierney won???The only reason Southgate doesn’t play Trent is because he doesn’t know how to manage him.
Macca again take your red tinted glasses off trent gets caught out time and time again defensively , you can’t keep saying he’s a good defender only if someone else defends and covers for him , against the very best in the world reece James , walker and trippier are all better options , if we’ve already got a shaky defence why would we want another defender their who can’t defend , no one ever said he can’t take a free kick or cross a ball.
Nicky Butt won more trophies than Steven Gerrard. What’s trophies got to do with who the better player is?
Some of the top contenders for next England Manager (let’s face it – England will spectacularly bottle the World Cup, and Southgate will be gone shortly afterwards)
Graham Potter – 2/1
Eddie Howe – 3/1
Mauricio Pochettino – 5/1
Steve Cooper – 6/1
Arsene Wenger – 12/1
Brendan Rodgers – 16/1
I would quite like Wenger. Could be a modern day Bobby Robson.

Well done all winners tonight.
England have conceded 4 home to Hungary and 3 home to a poor German team recently.
How can Trent Arnold possibly make that defence any worse.
It’s the 3 in the middle that need sorting out. Maguire being the obvious one to get the hook.
Someone mentioned Roberto Carlos as a similar type to Trent Arnold yesterday, well I don’t recall him being frozen out of any of the sides he played for, he was the template for the modern full back with his emphasis on attack and is I imagine regarded as one of the greatest full backs there has been.
maybe he had proper football managers who “managed” his defensive deficiencies to fit him in for his ability going forward.
He was also a world class defender elvis trent is not – agree with you on maguire though and I’m a united fan he looks shot to pieces!
Exactly elvis,Roberto Carlos was exactly the same always getting forward and creating chances he was never frozen out and like you say it’s having a manager that can deal with these type of players that counts, risk and reward.Jurgen Klopp is one of the best managers around and he rates Trent highly so he must be a damn good player.
I can take all the different opinions on people preferring players over others that’s fine but to say TAA isn’t world class 😂😂😂
TAA world class? I’ve heard it all now. jamesylfc. Gets swatted constantly off the ball. He’s only productive near the oppositions by-line. Assisted with many goals and that’s to his credit. But many players that take corner kicks have too. TAA has nothing else to offer
Jamesylfc Trent would walk in to any top side,if Liverpool were to put him up for sale Real Madrid and Barca would be rubbing their hands for his signature. These who say he can’t defend don’t realise that he plays in a team that plays with an exceptional high line so there’s always risk in that position and they are often exposed, that’s the modern game we see it with City a lot.Walker was also mentioned as being a better player absolutely not as he gives away penalties and his decisions can be rash,City have been conceding goals that’s the game though risk and reward.
All just opinions lads that’s all , i actually like trent as a player no one better at putting it on a sixpence , but his but his defending and positional play is shocking , playing him as a winger is a different argument!
Gets constantly twatted off the ball? 😂
I’m sure with such an attribute he would be playing week in/week out at Liverpool.
As macca said it all comes down to the way teams tactically setup and the way that Liverpool do is high risk, he is going to get caught out now and again but it’s down to the teammate next to him on the pitch to help out and that hasn’t been happening very much at the start of this season.
Put Reece James or whoever in his place in the Liverpool team and I would put a wager on it that he would be under the same predicament.
At the end of the day it’s England’s loss in my opinion and that works for me if it keeps him fresh for us at club level.

I’ve checked a few other companies, and the going rate is indeed around 7/2.
In addition, the Greek Ref (Tasos Sidiropoulos) likes to throw cards around e.g. he dished out 11 yellows + 1 red when Rangers played Union St Gilloise in the Champions League 6 weeks ago 😉
Had quite a bit of success with anytime goal scorers during this international window so hopefully it continues for the last games
