The DP World Tour leaves Scotland and makes the short journey to Wales this week with the Cazoo Open at Twenty Ten Course, Celtic Manor Resort, Newport, Wales.
The 144 field with the top 65 including ties making the cut will all be competing for a share of the €1.75M prize purse with the winner collecting the Cazoo Open title and a cheque for €297,500.
Before I continue just a quick update from last week's Hero Open up at St Andrews where we managed to select two each-way places which returned a tidy profit. David Law advised at 40/1 and Adrian Otaegui 22/1 both each way finished in a share for 3rd place while David Law also won us the match bet NAP. Well done to everyone who collected our DP World Tour tips last week.
Cazoo Open Preview
Twenty Ten Course will be playing 7,503 yards long this week, it’s a par 71 parkland track where power and distance with a hot putter will be the key to success around here.
Nacho Elviro returns to defend his crown, the Spaniard claimed his maiden DP World Tour title here last year when seeing off Justin Harding at the first playoff hole.
The weather is forecast to be sunny and warm throughout with no rain while breezes shouldn’t cause any concern peaking at around 12mph on Friday but much calmer over the weekend.
This event will be screened on Sky Sports red button with live coverage starting at 2.30 pm on Thursday afternoon.
So let’s move on with this week's Cazoo Open betting tips.
Eddie Pepperell
For my first and main pick at Celtic Manor, I’m going to suggest Eddie Pepperell 30/1 EW Unibet. You know I’ve just had a thought, I’ve never selected the 31yrs old from Oxford but I do really like steady Eddie and always have.
The Englishman hasn’t won on the DP World Tour since 2018 when he bagged his two DP World titles to date. 2018 was an impressive year for Pepperell winning both the Scottish Open and the British Masters and he has been showing signs that another victory could be on its way anytime soon. Last weekend he was sublime at the Hero Open where he finished runner-up and before that he was T11th at the Cazoo Classic.
With three top 20 finishes at his last six events, Eddie Pepperell should be believing that another victory is imminent, especially with some stats in the bag that matter this week at Ten Twenty.
The Englishman is ranked 7th on the DP World Tour this year for Driving Accuracy and 23rd for Average Putts per round.
If he can produce the sublime stuff I’ve been witnessing over the past few weeks then Eddie Pepperell could be the king at Celtic Manor this weekend when he’s crowned the Cazoo Open champion.
Marcus Armitage
For my next betting tip in Wales, I’m going to single out Marcus Armitage 35/1 EW Bet365. The 35-year-old from Salford has been consistent this year missing only one cut at the last fifteen attempts.
He even made the cut at St Andrew's at The 150th Open Championship where he carded two rounds under par, both 71 on The Old Course and finished inside the Top 20 last time out at the Cazoo Classic where he finished T16th. When he gets going Armitage is simply a birdie machine.
He now has five Top 20 finishes this year with the pick of the bunch being 5th place at the Qatar Masters. He won his maiden DP World Tour title last year at the European Porsche Open and I just have a feeling that with recent good form, Armitage can double up with yet another victory this Sunday. Marcus Armitage usually always goes well when not too far from home so a short trip to Wales may be just what Armitage requires to bag his second DP World Tour crown.
David Law
For my next selection I’m going to stick with a player I advised last week, David Law 50/1 EW SportNation. The 31 yrs old Scot from the granite city of Aberdeen certainly didn’t disappoint us last week at the Hero Open up at Fairmont St Andrews. I tipped him at 40/1 each way and he duly obliged returning a tidy profit finishing T3rd whilst challenging for the Hero Open title all the way from start to finish.
With a recent fourth-place finish at the Irish Open, it’s clear for all to see that this is a man in form with two top-five finishes at the last four times of asking. For his price to increase this week from 40/1 to 50/1 slightly baffles me if I’m honest especially after his performance up at Fairmont. I’ve told you all before that these firms don’t get it right every time and this could be a classic case of just that in Wales this weekend.
Now I’m fully aware that this is a different set-up from links golf where The Scot usually thrives but he’s going to arrive at Celtic Manor with bags of confidence and he can double up on his only victory on the DP World Tour to date when claiming his maiden title at the ISPS Handa Open in 2019.
My advice is to take the 50/1 while it’s available safe in the knowledge, just like last week, that just a place will return a tidy profit but hopefully more.
For my final selection it’s the customary match bet and for this week's NAP in Wales I’m going to advise David Law again but this time to beat Jens Dartorp over 72 holes 1/1 Bet365 Nap.
Cazoo Open Predictions
