THE WGC-HSBC Champions tournament at the Sheshan International Golf Club in Shanghai has certainly pulled in the players this week. What with 18 Major winners and 40 of the world's top 50 taking part picking a winner is going to be tough but I’ll give it a good shot.
I’ve backed Henrik Stenson (16-1, various) for the last few months and feel he still has another win to come. He’s definitely on form with his victory in the Tour Championship recently and is number one in greens in regulation on US Tour but he’s due an MRI scan on a wrist injury this week so we might have to give him a miss. If he is fit he must be a good bet.
A lot of money will go on Phil Mickelson but one who has grabbed my eye is Jordan Spieth (33-1, bet365). He has had a superb rookie year finishing eighth in the FedEx and earning nearly $4 million. With nine top-10 finishes this year, 12 sub-70s in his last 20 rounds and third in the all-round stats on the US Tour he could finish well up the field.
One man who has done everything right since the beginning of September on the European Tour is American Peter Uihlein (35-1, bet365). In his last four tournaments he has finished in the top five in three of them and is 37 under par earning over 800,000 Euros in the process.
Had he not had a disastrous 75 in the second round in the BMW last week he could have won instead of finishing fifth. He looks the type of player that once he gets on a run he’s hard to stop.
Martin Kaymer (20-1, Paddy Power) hasn’t had a good year but there is a slight showing of a return to form. He is a past winner here (2011) coming back from five shots behind (the largest final day comeback in a WGC event).
I have also got to add to my list Hideki Matsuyama at 40-1 (various). Don’t ask me why but I’ve just got a feeling!

Paul Casey top 10 finish 5/2 stan james & coral
paul has 5 top 10 finishes out of 6 at sheshan with his worst being a 11th place finish,
he also looks back to form last week
sj, cheers. Ace Venturer fancied giving it a go so good luck to him. I like Spieth each way and I’ve won a fair bit on Uihlien this season.
Second tip is the strongest
Brett Rumford top australian 5/6 tote & betfred
brett is by far the best australian in the field & his current form is good
he has been 9th & 6th in last 2 tournaments at putting & was 14th at scrambling last week
I rate this bet as 10/10
what about 4-4 or 3-3 motherwell v aberdeen 450/1 and 50/1 bet365 game could open up at very wet fir park.worth a quid or so.
I have also won a few quid on P.Uihlein and also his mate B.Koepka.
This week I have gone for
P.UIHLEIN 33/1 £2 E/W P/Power
D.JOHNSON 33/1 £2 E/W P/Power
G.BHULLAR 400/1 £1 E/W Skybet
As Uilein is on our tour i do an ew double with Speith and Uihlein. Didn’t fancy them this week so went for another favourite of mine who generates big odds. Aphibarnrat is a birdie expert, but also fires in the odd double. I’m the other way round?
Donald, I took the Spieth tip so a decent start.
