Lusitanien was clearly not well-handicapped as I and many others on social media had thought. He struggled big time yesterday, and there were no excuses available. With that being said, it wouldn't surprise me to see him win in the near future off a big price, as that happens all too frequently. That happened with Powerstown Park who was a recent selection, and he won at 18/1 on the weekend just past, after putting in a poor run when he was put up on the thread.
Wincanton 1:00
With the Tom George yard slowly coming back into form, I think a chance can be taken on KAKAMORA making a winning chasing debut at Wincanton. On Paper this race does seem quite competitive with some names which were once touted for quite bright careers, but it hasn't exactly worked out that way, so I think a chase debutante can definitely pull it off.
I think the form on offer from every single horse who has raced over the larger obstacles isn't great at all, and you can pick holes in every form line. However, the selection's hurdle form coming into this looks quite smart in the grand scheme of things and when you compare against the other's form. The 6yo gelding was last seen in April where he beat the Simon Munir & Isaac Souede owned horse, Good Boy Bobby, and beating him convincingly by 5.5L. That horse has been a revelation this year since they reverted him back over fences and has won a Class 1 Listed race, and then nearly followed it up off a mark of 141 in a big prize Class 1 handicap at Newcastle, only to be beaten by a head. When they met, it was clear as day that the intermediate trip of 2m 4f would suit Kakamora, and maybe even further in time. He is a previous PTP winner so will stay further, but also should relish the switch to fences. The fact he enjoyed the summer ground is a positive as he should be getting good ground at Wincanton, which is bizarre as it's December and I swear that every other part of the country has been hit by rain.
His fitness will have to be taken on trust, but he did previously win off a 97 day absence. Even though that's no where near the same length of time that he has had off this time, it's still an encouraging sign that he get's himself fit on gallops. This is his first run after a recent wind-op, so fingers crossed that will bring out even further improvement.
