Monday’s Football Tips: Rodgers, Gerrard & Lampard Favourites for Premier League Vacancies

The thing about the Sack Race is that as soon as a manager ‘wins' it there's immediately a new favourite in the frame.

After the weekend departures of Daniel Farke and Dean Smith, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (1/2) is top of the market to be next to be relieved of his duties in the Premier League.

Those odds don't look very favourable for Ole after a weekend defeat to Man City in which a two-goal deficit was kind to the Red Devils. Patience is wearing thin among the United fans but with Ed Woodward's departure from the club imminent, will he be preapred to pull the trigger as one of his final acts at the helm at Old Trafford?

Former Liverpool boss, Brendan Rodgers emerged as favourite for Solksjaer's job at the weekend and is priced at 5/6 currently, ahead of Zinedine Zidane (5/1) and Mauricio Pochettino at 10s.

Aston Villa's need for a new manager is more immediate and Rangers gaffer Steven Gerrard has been installed as 10/11 favourite by Paddy Power. The Liverpool legend delivered the Scottish Premiership title for Rangers last season and his side hold a four point lead at the top the table against a much more competitive Celtic this season, so his stock couldn't be higher. Would he be tempted by the former champions of Europe to move back down south?

The success of the Danish national team hasn't gone unnoticed and boss Kasper Hjulmand (4/1) is said to be on the Villa Board's shortlist and that would be a bold appointment.

Or will former Villa assistant manager John Terry take the leap into management as head coach back at Villa Park? Paddy Power have installed him as second favourite for the gig at 4/1. His former teammate at Chelsea, Frank Lampard, is 12s.

However, the bookies seem to think Lampard os more likely to take over at Carrow Road where he was odds-on initially and can now be backed at 2/1.

Also on the Norwich City shortlist is Bodo/Glimt's boss Kjetil Knutsen who has been cut from 16/1 to 5/2. It's only a matter of time before someone takes a chance on the Norwegian after a record breaking season in Eliteserien last year which delivered Glimt's first title in sensational style. Of course their 6-1 win over Roma a few weeks made him the talk of Europe and now could be a good time to nick him from under the noses of some of the continent's more fashionable clubs.

As we head in to the international break it'll be interesting to see where we're at once club football resumes and which new faces will be in place.

The EFL Trophy is just about all we've got to look forward to this week but Monday night sees the conclusion of this weekend's FA Cup matches with Dagenham & Redbridge v Salford City live on ITV4. Tolu reckons it could be an entertaining game in his match preview. Fingers crossed!
