Thursday’s Football Bet of the Day see’s me focus on the World Cup Qualifiers. I’ve picked a couple of selections from Europe in which I like the look of to give us a nice odds against double.

🇬🇪 Georgia vs Sweden 🇸🇪

🇪🇺 World Cup Qualifier

⏰ Thursday 11th November, 17:00

Sweden travel to Batumi to take on Georgia at the Adjarabet Arena knowing qualification to Qatar is firmly in their hands. The Swedes currently have a two point advantage over Spain at the top of Group B, whereas Georgia are already eliminated.

It was never likely that Georgia would qualify for their first ever World Cup once the draw was made and that has proven to be the case. Before securing their first victory in the group away to fellow minnows Kosovo last time out, Georgia had lost five of their opening six qualifiers. Scoring goals has been a major problem for the Georgians, scoring just four times in seven qualifiers. Georgia have also lost five of their previous six competitive matches at home, with a draw against Estonia the only occasion they avoided defeat.

Sweden recovered from their first defeat in qualifying by winning successive matches at home to both Kosovo and Greece. One of the key reasons why Sweden top Group B is due to their excellent defensive record. The Swedes have conceded just three goals in qualifying so far, keeping four clean including one in the reverse fixture. Sweden did lose their last qualifier away from home against Greece, but did defeat the other strugglers in the Group Kosovo 0-3 prior to that.

🇷🇴 Romania vs Iceland 🇮🇸

🇪🇺 World Cup Qualifier

⏰ Thursday 11th November, 19:45

Romania host Iceland in Bucharest at the Stadionul Steaua knowing if they win their last two games they’ll secure a playoff spot for the Workd Cup in Qatar. Romania currently sit in 2nd, a point above both North Macedonia and Armenia, with them five points clear of their Nordic opponents.

Romania secured a vital victory over group rivals Armenia last time out, winning 1-0 in Bucharest thanks to an Alexandru Mitrita strike in the first half. Romania have collected nine of their 13 points in Group J at home, with group leaders Germany the only side to take any points on their travels to Bucharest. Romania secured their only away win against Iceland in a 0-2 win in September and will fancy their chances of defeating them once more, this time on home turf.

It’s not been a great campaign for Iceland, with them collecting just eight points from their eight fixtures. Six of those points have came in their two wins against the groups whipping boys Lichtenstein, including a 4-0 win in Reykjavík in their previous qualifier. That was Iceland’s first clean in qualifying, and they’ve only scored three goals in their six games against sides other than Lichtenstein. Iceland have already lost in Armenia as well as Germany, conceding five goals and failing to score themselves.

Bet of the Day

Sweden know a win in Georgia will mean they only need a draw in their final group game in Seville, assuming Spain defeat Greece in Athens, for them to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar. It won’t be an easy match for them against a stubborn Georgia side, however due to their strong defensive record and their quality at the top end of the pitch, I’m expecting them to grab those all important three points. Romania also have their destiny in their own hands, with them knowing if they win their final two matches, they’ll finish 2nd in the group and secure a place in the playoffs. Iceland have been disappointing in qualification and have struggled at both ends of the park against the sides above them in the group. Romania are strong at home and I’m expecting them to defeat a side they’ve already beaten in the reverse fixture in Reykjavík in September.
