Racing tips: The chasing experience will be key for Cenotice against the debutants at Fakenham

Representing Bob was a winning tip from yesterday's thread, and it didn't look likely when he once again looked tapped for speed, but his stamina pulled through and he won comfortably again. A step up in trip to 3m will definitely see him in a better light, but I can't envisage them doing it until he loses over 2m 4/5f.

Fakenham 2:40

A four runner race, but an interesting race to say the least. The two most fancied horses in the market come into this race making their chase debuts, and we have an unexposed chaser in CENOTICE and a horse who is well-handicapped on old form in Storm Rising. The one I think they all have to beat, and will probably be overlooked is Cenotice, and I don't quite understand why.

The selection comes into this race as still an unexposed horse in my opinion. That might sound a little daft as he has had 7 runs over fences, but based on his two starts for Donald McCain he is definitely classed as an unexposed horse. Before he came over to England, he was trained by Noel Meade, and he had some decent form from the Irish races. But, it was quite apparent that he is simply better over shorter trips than the longer ones, and his form showed that. His best run on paper came when he finished 3rd in a Ballinrobe Beginners chase behind the late great Wicklow Brave. Arguably his next best run was the 2nd behind Jan Maat, which has produced a strong level of form. The winner went on to win a Grade 3, the horse back in 3rd also won a Grade 3 and is currently rated 143, the 4th horse won on his next start and hasn't been seen since. Both of those runs came over 2m 1f, he does stay further than this but he definitely looks better suited to the minimum distances, which has been on show since his move to England.

Since moving to England and Donald McCain's yard he has ran twice. On his first run he won a 3 runner race, and though that sounds like shoddy form, he beat his odds-on stablemate, who has since won another 3 runner race by 18 lengths, producing an RPR of 135. On his second start he was tried over 2m 4.5f and was arguably travelling the strongest until he jumped one of the latter fences quite badly, which took the steam out of him. I don't think he would have won if he jumped the second last better as the manor in which he weakened suggested he was running on empty anyway, so a drop back in trip looks to suit.

As for the challengers. The Paul Nicholls' runner will be fancied on chase debut as he he comes into this race winning 2 of his 3 hurdle runs. However, after a long layoff of 242 days and how free he was in his last race at Kempton, this spells a recipe for disaster. Considering the size of the field, if they want to cover him up, they won't be able to, and if they run from the front, especially on chase debut he could make a few mistakes, if being keen. Paddys Motorbike has hit a bit of form since moving to Sam Thomas' yard, and that's no surprise. This trip could be on the sharp side for this horse, as most of his form has come over a few furlongs more, and he'll also have to prove himself over fences, and his pedigree doesn't suggest he should make a chaser. Storm Rising is well handicapped on old form, but since moving to this new yard he has shown little of encouragement, and appears to be on a downward spiral.
