PSV Eindhoven vs Monaco

, KO: 20:00 Oct 21, 2021, Philips Stadion
Monaco

It is a battle for top spot in Group B of the UEFA Europa League as PSV Eindhoven host Monaco at Philips Stadion. The French side are often plagued by bouts of inconsistency and while they are likely to make things difficult, PSV should have the edge, especially playing at home.

PSV Eindhoven were in fine form last time out in the Europa League as they eased to a 4-1 victory over Sturm Graz. They took the lead into the break through Ibrahim Sangare while Eran Zahavi, Philipp Max and Yorbe Vertessen were all on target in the second half.

Roger Schmidt’s men are unbeaten in the Europa League having begun their campaign with a 2-2 draw against Real Sociedad. They have been in fine form in recent weeks, winning four of their last five matches across all competitions, including a 3-1 victory over PEC Zwolle in the Eredivisie last Saturday.

Goals have not been a problem for PSV, who have scored two or more in their last three matches. However, their open style often leaves them exposed at the back as they are without a clean sheet in their last five matches across all competitions.

Monaco have had a similar start to the Europa League with PSV and have also claimed a win and a draw from their opening two matches. They began with a 1-0 victory over Sturm Graz before being held 1-1 at home by Real Sociedad in their second fixture.

It has been a generally erratic start to the season for Monaco, who currently sit 10th in Ligue 1. Nico Kovac’s men travel to PSV off the back of a 2-0 defeat to Lyon in their last domestic fixture on Saturday.

Monaco have found things difficult on the road this season, claiming just two wins from their last seven away matches across all competitions. They are also without a clean sheet in that run.
