ON Sunday I asked if we could trust Norwich. The answer was yes – and they didn't let us down.

Tonight I ask the same question about Newcastle – but the answer is different.

Alan Pardew's men are on a terrible run and even at home to Wigan it's difficult to put much faith in them.

Newcastle are as big as 11-10 at BetVictor with but that's because they have suffered four defeats in a row – including losses at home to West Ham and Swansea.

Pardew's squad has been rocked by injuries and he's still without the likes of Hatem Ben Arfa, Johan Cabaye and Steven Taylor while James Perch is banned.

Wigan arrive on Tyneside on the back of a thrilling 3-2 win over Reading and they'll have backers at 29-10 with Stan James.

It tempts me but maybe the best shout is for a draw at 12-5 with Skybet because the Latics aren’t convincing enough on the road. They have won two and lost four but there have been two 2-2 draws in the last three meetings of the sides at St James's Park.

So consider the draw or you could keep Wigan on side by taking draw no bet at 7-4 with Paddy Power or draw no bet or supporting them plus one goal at 4-5 at Betfred.

In normal circumstances a Newcastle win would be the way to go but they haven't been their usual selves and may struggle until star turns Cabaye and Ben Arfa return.

But up front they still have deadly duo Demba Ba and Papiss Cisse and they could test a makeshift back four missing Ivan Ramis and Antolin Alcaraz. Skipper Gary Caldwell will face a late fitness test and if he fails to make it that's three centre-halves down for Roberto Martinez.

Ba is 9-2 with bet365 and Paddy Power to score first while Cisse is 11-2 at Skybet. To score at any time the pair are 13-10 at Paddy Power and 13-8 at sportingbet respectively.

Wigan of course possess a threat of their own and last week's hat-trick hero Jordi Gomez will be looking to add to his tally. He is 11-1 with bet365 to bag the opener and 11-4 at BetVictor to score.

Arouna Kone is 11-4 at Paddy Power to net while Franco di Santos, who sparked the recovery against Reading, is the same price.

With so many decent strikers on the pitch and a string of defenders missing there should be goals. Both teams to score pays 8-11 (various) while over 2.5 goals is 9-10 at bet365 and William Hill.

There is one FA Cup tie tonight and Cheltenham should beat Hereford to set up a meeting at home to Everton.

The League Two side have won their last two at home and are a biggest 4-6 with Coral, William Hill and BetVictor.

Hereford deserve respect after beating Shrewsbury in the last round but that was on home soil and they're missing a few first-choice players, with top scorer Ryan Bowman facing a fitness test.

In La Liga Sevilla are 4-5 with Ladbrokes and Coral to beat Real Valladolid at home and it looks worth taking although they have some selection problems. Sevilla have won four of their last five at home while Real have lost their last two on the road, 3-0 at Real Betis and 2-1 at Getafe.

Recommendations

Super Single
Wigan draw no bet
(7-4, Paddy Power)

Sevilla
(4-5, Coral, BetVictor)

Gregg, on current form Sevilla should win but have few injuries and suspensions so I’ll feel more confident once I see the starting line-ups.

Mr Broke It, no doubt Newcastle are a due win but it might not come until they get all of their players back. The price is attractive no doubt but I can’t bring myself to back them.

Knottsy, goals is our only hope now I think. Red cards change games and that one’s done for Wigan. Very dodgy decision though.

Re tomo night football, olympiakos look a good bet at home to arsenal after seeing the squad they are taking to Greece. 9 regulars are left at home and 5 of the 18 man squad have never played. They are 15/8 on my paddy coupon but just checked online and only 6/4 now – maybe price dropping already. Bearing in mind the form think its a great bet

    • Avatar of Mr Fixit
      Mr Fixit 12 years ago

Darren, it’s clear Arsenal aren’t interested in the game. Even before the team news I was thinking about Olympiakos who have won 9 of their last 12 at home in Europe.

      Mr Fixit 12 years ago

Tony, Newcastle weren’t a home banker and you know it. Very easy comment to put up after Wigan get a harsh red in 12 minutes and concede a penalty. Without the red it would have been an even game.

fancy a AC Milan Malaga Dortmund treble tomorrow 10/1 @betvictor.
think city will rest some of the team for Sunday as already out, Milan are getting better wi el sharawy on form and Malaga at home to Anderlecht, AC and Malaga already qualified for last 16 but that top spots still up for grabs.

    • Avatar of Mr Fixit
      Mr Fixit 12 years ago

Craig read this earlier. “Stephan El Shaarawy is one who could be rested while Mathieu Flamini and Massimo Ambrosini could come into the midfield in place of Nigel de Jong and Riccardo Montolivo as Milan make changes.”

    • Avatar of Mr Fixit
      Mr Fixit 12 years ago

Craig, I don’t follow any specific tipping sites because if I did that would be cheating really. For team news I look at BBC sport or simply search under individual fixtures on the net. Apart from that I try to keep up to date with form and results. Soccerbase and sportinglife are good for stats.

    • Avatar of Mr Fixit
      Mr Fixit 12 years ago

Tony, I agree Newcastle had to win at some point but we’ll never know what would have happened if Wigan hadn’t suffered that early sending-off. My problem with the comment is that at 3-0 you say “Newcastle were a home banker”. That’s easy to say then but earlier you posted your sixfold which didn’t include Newcastle.

  36. Avatar of anton
    anton 12 years ago

Ano a dont think a was meaning to say Newcastle were a home banker. A was drinking buddy and hit out with the stupid comment. Did fancy Newcastle but not enough to back them. The six fold was a waste
