Aston Villa vs West Ham

, KO: 20:00 Sep 16, 2019, Villa Park
West Ham

MONDAY night football brings us a battle of the claret and blues – or the David Cameron derby as I prefer to call it.

The former Prime Minister infamously couldn't remember which of these teams he supported back in 2015, a blunder that now seems minor league compared to sparking this interminable Brexit chaos.

But I can sympathise with Cameron a little as I'm also finding it hard to choose between Villa and West Ham for what should be a cracking game. The draw is priced 13/5 with Marathonbet and I wouldn't be too surprised if that came up.

Performances have been decent from Dean Smith's side on their return to the Premier League but that hasn't been matched by results, with Villa taking just three points from four games.

Villa Park has been bouncing but their home form has been patchy with a 2-1 loss to Bournemouth followed by a rousing 2-0 victory over Everton.

And Smith's players will need to be on top form if they're to take three points from a Hammers side that seems to be growing in confidence.

Manuel Pellegrini's men started the campaign with their customary savage home beating from Manchester City, earning me a few quid as I lumped on over 2.5 goals for the champions.

But they are unbeaten since that 5-0 loss and headed into the international break on the back of three successive victories in the league and EFL Cup.

West Ham won 3-1 at Watford on their last Premier League away day with big summer signing Sebastian Haller helping himself to a couple of goals.

The Frenchman also netted in the 2-0 home win over Norwich and looks decent value at 17/10 with Paddy Power as the favourite in the anytime scorer market.

With the exception of a six-goal thrashing of Crewe in the EFL Cup, Villa have found goals hard to come by this season, netting just four times in their four league games.

John McGinn scored in the Premier League opener at Spurs and also netted for Scotland in another defeat to Russia last week. If the doom and gloom surrounding the Scots hasn't affected him too much, the midfielder could be worth a shout at 4/1 with 888Sport to net at any time.

McGinn picked up 14 yellow cards last term and is still awaiting his first booking of this campaign so I'd suggest it's long overdue. He's 9/4 with Bet365 to be carded against the Hammers.

West Ham aren't the kind of side to sit back on the road so it could be quite an open game. That lends value to the 9/4 William Hill offer on each side to have over one corner in each half.
