COSMIC RAY (5.00) looks the one bright bet on a dismal Musselburgh card. Les Eyre's gelding has shown an affinity with the track, recording back-to-back victories in May 2017. His form fell into a slump but Cosmic Ray took full advantage of his crashing handicap rating to burst back into life at Nottingham last month. Racing on the fast ground he loves, Cosmic Ray drew clear early in the straight and held on under pressure.
There is a better class of animal running at Chelmsford City and SMARTER (6.20) looks good value at around 4-1 in the 1m 6f handicap. William Haggas sent him to Newcastle last time on the back of a clear-cut Southwell victory, but Smarter just failed to contain Gantier. Lord Lamington continues at the top of his game and is preferred in the betting market, while Emirates Empire won a Wolverhampton maiden by more than four lengths for Michael Bell.
NONIOS (7.55) jumps out as an each-way bet at decent odds in the 1m 2f handicap. David Simcok has the seven-year-old in the form of his life following a course and distance success in early April, followed by an excellent second at Yarmouth.
MANDALAYAN (7.05) is worth a wager at Salisbury after his second to Eddystone Rock at Leicester was franked by the winner's solid performance at Epsom last week.
A couple of interest at Redcar are MYRMIDONS (3.25), a course winner last October, while MAQAADEER (4.35) has good claims on the strength of his fourth to Balladeer at Chelmsford City.
