Top Football Tips

IT'S another big weekend north and south of the border with the main games on Sunday.

Everyone's looking forward to Liverpool v Man United while it's Rangers v Hamilton and Hibs v Celtic.

Today though there is plenty to look at starting with Man City v Everton and I've posted separate Scottish and English previews as well as VIP tips.

Most of my tips are reasoned there with St Johnstone being the Super Single at what looks a big price at home to Motherwell. I'm glad Greg Browning agrees with this one.

And as Sean Ireland has pointed out the weather forecast for Scotland was bad and by 2pm four games were called off – the ones at Stranraer, Berwick and Stirling. Stranraer and Peterhead were on my moneyback fivefold to I've changed that line because the moneyback aspect only kicks in if your five selections play.

Last night there was a stunning result as Livingston beat Hearts 5-0. There was a lot of talk about it before kick-off and for myself and Greg it was a no-bet for several reasons. Well done to anyone who backed Livi who were massively boosted by the return of Ryan Hardie and by Hearts handing out some early Christmas gifts.

Quote of the night came from Jambos boss Craig Levein who said: “We made them look like PSG!” If the town of Livingston resembled Paris I'd move there in a minute.

Well done to all the winners last night including HullShaker with his Welsh tips and good luck to everyone over the weekend.

Check out my new mad mental goals post and remember to look at welovebetting for their tips and video chat.

Can’t argue with us Mr F

Flying at the moment and unbeaten in the last 9 home games against Motherwell ( 7 wins and 2 draws)

I’ll be going up to the game – yours will definitely be off

Great evening in Wales last night and NZ Youth just getting underway 🤞 Out early doors fishing so will post this up now…repost from Thursday and nothing brewing team-wise or politic-wise that would make me back off…

It all looks great on the surface at Gigg Lane with The Shakers playing some of our best football in years but off the pitch it’s a completely different matter.

We’ve been battling financial ruin for three decades since we went into liquidation in the early 90s and have limped from one narrow escape to the next – outgoing owner Stewart Day may have one successful promotion campaign (and one relegation) on his epitaph but there are unseen parts to the story about the way the finances have been run under his tenure that leave a bitter taste in the mouth.

The drop from League One hit us hard and as ever it’s the club 2 or 3 years down the line that takes the biggest hit – new owner Steve Dale has a minor miracle on his hands to turn the ship around and as anyone who has worked in business knows you sometimes have to offload your biggest assets in times of financial hardship so watch this space … as I’m sure our best players are.

So we find ourselves in a strange juxtaposition at the moment – playing in the form of our lives but with a financial noose around our necks that may well tighten come the New Year.

Will it affect us in the short term? Who knows but it’s certainly worth being aware of factors off the pitch rather than just looking at results and form.

    Oldham v Bury (3pm, Saturday)

Sorry, bit of a preamble but well worth seeing the wider context – on to the game itself!

The obvious thoughts looking from the outside would be goals and probably an emphatic Bury win but having lived through 40-odd years worth of Lancashire derbies I’ve seen far too many end with a scoreline that reflects the back-to-back terraced housing that surrounds most NW grounds. Dull and mundane.

However, three things do look brighter for us:

We have form on our side and statistically are one of the best offensive sides in the division.I posted earlier in the week that Oldham’s away form is arguably better away from Boundary Park than it is at home.We have held the hoodoo over the hosts in recent years on their patch with 1 loss, 2 draws and 3 wins during a 7-year spell.

As ever it’s always going to be worth waiting until closer to kick-off as final line-ups are decided and worth also remembering we look a slightly inflated price as result of factors off the field.

As it stands though I can’t see us losing this one although there is always the chance of a dull draw – draw no bet is Bury is a good enough price to get stuck into early doors and I also can’t ignore our former Bray and Galway midfielder Jay O’ Shea who has hit 6 since October and is absolutely on fire.

    Recommended Bets:

    3pm NAP

    ⚽️NAP – English League 2⚽️

    📍Oldham vs Bury
    📍Newport vs MK Dons

2 massive games in context for the 2 inform sides in league 2 and the 2 sides who are most likely to win the league bar Lincoln, Dons 13/8 outright and bury 6/1. We have the most inform side of the league (BURY) coming to Oldham who will have fatigue from their midweek game vs Rochdale in the cup Tuesday. Bury are high flying atm with no loss in 5 and a huge 13 points picked up with a superb total of 16 scored and only 4 conceded in their last 5 games. They are growing in confidence week in week out from sitting slumped in 14th back in end October to boost up to here. They have class players in maynard whom most know and the likes of big ex man utd man john oshea even scoring goals with his head. Value and form are represented in their value to win but ill take the DNB for them to continue their resurgence.

Next up is the side who sit second in form standings table but are favs for the league and sit top overall. Now the key key factor here in this match is that Newport can score BUT they can concede and a mass total of 34 goals conceded for only 32 scored shows their leaky at the back compared to MK dons who have scored the same amount of goals but only conceded 13 which is 21 LESS than opponents who are 32scored and 34 conceded, while MK 32scored and 13 conceded. Mk are 12 for 3 in there last 5 games in form and Newport are 9 for 8 in last 5 which again shows them conceding 8 goals in 5 games. DNB for me considering both are top 3 sides and will not want to slip up against clearly weaker opposition and the stats back that up.

All in all the value of the DNB double is paying 1.29/1 with 8/15 and 1/2

•£50 double keep me ticking over nicely and if wins it will pay for a few bottles and a Chinese 👍

Quite an intriguing Aussie derby between WSW and Sydney FC this morning. Traditionally Sydney have had the upper hand in this fixture but they are not the same team this season and are currently reeling from a shock home defeat last week against Wellington 1-3. Another defeat today could see them potentially drop outside the top 6 which is unheard of for Sydney in recent times.

WSW are in indifferent form so far this season and will be desperate for points to climb the ladder. They currently sit third bottom.

I really fancy Sydney to step up today. They have marquee signing Siem de Jong back in the team after 6wks injury and alongside Ninkovic they should offer much more ammunition for Le Fondre up front.

Dortmund v Werder Breman BTTS & Overs Evens – Main Bet
Dortmund in cracking form at home averaging over 3.5 goals scored/game – but have conceded in 5/7 – Bremen not in bad nick either and I fancy them to continue their trend of scoring in all league games this season. Add in 5/6 H2H have seen this outcome with the other BTTS
    Sion v Basel BTTS, Thun > 1.5 TGS 7/5 – quarter stake
Sion and Basel usually sees goals – every Basel game on the road has been BTTS. Thun are flying high and usually net a couple at home – they should today against a Grasshopper side with the worst away record in the league
CD Aves v Guimaraes BTTS & Over 11/8 – quarter stake
8/12 games this season when Aves at home and Guimaraes away have seen this outcome. Add in a 2-1 and 1-3 last season and I cannot resist the price on offer

THE weather could play havoc today so staying clear of the lower leagues in Scotland and heading to the Glasgow west end where I’m taking Partick Thistle to make it back to back wins

Partick Thistle v Alloa (KO 3pm)

After relegation from the SPFL last season, many would have fancied Thistle to be up towards the top end of the championship, however, it’s not panned out that way as Thistle have been a shambles.

They find themselves one point off the bottom which is embarrassing considering they have retained a good number of last years squad.

In October out went Alan Archibald and in came Steve Caldwell but that change did nothing to improve matters on the field and if anything things have got worse under their new boss.

Caldwell finally registered his first win as boss last weekend at home to Dunfermline , prior to that the club claimed a solitary point from a the last 27 available.

That win was desperately needed and its another home game today against fellow strugglers Alloa, but to be fair to Alloa, they are competing well in this league given they are part time and have the smallest budget in the league.

All 4 of Thistle’s wins have come at home and I’m taking them to kick start their season and finally put a run of results together.

They won have a better opportunity today against a side who will likely be back down in League 1 next season.

Big game today, Part 1/2 of the local rivals clash, all within the space of 2 weeks

Yes it can only mean one thing….. Alti vs County

    FA Trophy – Altrincham v Stockport County – 3PM

I’m attending the game at Moss Lane with a few pals – a mixture of supporters from both teams, so should be a good atmosphere and a boozy affair. Haven’t decided on the forfeit for the losing team yet… maybe a round of Jamesons for starters. Anyway down to business…

Anyone who’s followed my Alti tips these past few weeks will certainly be in the black. The Robins have been on fine form, winning the last 5 games in a row in all competitions home + away.
Today will be a big test though, with rivals County a bit of a bogey team for Alti. Last 3 H2H have not been pretty reading for Alti, County winning all 3 – 2-0, 1-2 and 3-0 over the last 3 years. However this is a totally different Altrincham side, much stronger now that they have sorted the defence out and they are a more complete team now which has shown in the results.
County’s form this season has been fairly decent, but they’d argue have drawn more games than they’d like, and only sitting in 11th place in the NLN compared to Alti’s prestigious 3rd position.

Both teams face each other again in two weeks in the NLN.

This is a tough one to call, but I expect goals from both teams..

🇮🇹 Seria B today for a bit of value as two midtable sides clash at 2pm. There’s only a single point between the sides but it’s the home/away form of either side that points towards some value

    Perugia v Spezia

It’s fair too say that both these sides prefer the comforts of home with Perugia collecting 15/21 points at home & Spezia collecting 16/20 points at home too. The home side have won 5/6 at home while Spezia have lost 5/7 on the road. The H2H backs up the home advantage theory in that there’s been no away wins in the previous 9 meetings of the sides. Perugia have scored 2+ in each of their last 3 homes and that’s what I’m on at an inviting 13/8.

Hoping to go one better after a 455/1 tenfold finished 1 goal short (!) yesterday – gone with the accepted site knowledge on the 2 Scottish games, and also think Hull City at 33/20 to beat a leaky Brentford side is great value:-

    1/2 – Tottenham (Handicap 0:1)
    Spurs v Burnley

    13/20 – Watford Match Result
    Watford v Cardiff City

    83/100 – Over 2,5 Total Goals – Over/Under
    Wolverhampton Wanderers v Bournemouth

    18/25 – Over 2,5 Total Goals – Over/Under
    Aston Villa v Stoke City

33/20 – Hull City Match Result
    Hull City v Brentford

3/5 – Yes – Both Teams to Score
    Rochdale v Plymouth Argyle

21/20 – St Johnstone Match Result
    St Johnstone v Motherwell

19/10 – Queen Of The South Match Result

Quite fancy some goals in Scottish League 2 today

    Edinburgh City vs Elgin

Edinburgh are the top scorers at home in the league as you might expect for the side currently leading the division with 16 goals in 8 home games but the bet really rests on Elgin

Their last 4 league games have all gone over 3.5ftg and in fact 3 of them went over 5.5ftg

Elgin have conceded by half time in each of the past 4 games and have conceded twice in 3 of these 4 in the first half

Probably wouldn’t take all of these but I like the following

    Over 1.5fhg @ 2.75
    Over 2.5fhg @ 8.00
    Over 3.5ftg @ 3.40
    Over 4.5ftg @ 6.00
    Edinburgh City over 0.5tg 1st half @ 1.85
    Edinburgh City over 1.5tg 1st half @ 4.20

Think there should be goals in the 4 games below, so two selections from me:-

4/1 – Team 2 to win and both teams to score Match Result and Both Teams to Score
    Bristol City v Norwich City

27/20 – Team 1 to win and both teams to score Match Result and Both Teams to Score
    Borussia Dortmund v Werder Bremen

11/4 – Team 2 to win and both teams to score Match Result and Both Teams to Score
    Fulham v West Ham United

23/20 – Team 1 to win and both teams to score Match Result and Both Teams to Score
    Real Madrid v Rayo Vallecano
    4-fold above pays 94/1…….

A slightly safer option is the over 2.5mgls (Fulham, Dortmund) and over 3.5 (Madrid, Norwich) fourfold which pays 11/1…..

Limited picks in South and Central America until the Brasilian Youth Tournament starts but one game from the Caribbean Islands may be better than a kick in the Lesser Antilles and looks a better proposition than both the Antiguan and Barbadan matches…

JONG HOLLAND VS. INTER WILLEMSTAD (2300 KO):

Many of Curacao’s teams names give an insight into the Dutch colonial history of the island with ‘Jongs’ aplenty and some of the scorelines are pretty much in keeping with the Eredivise too!

Only one of the last 5 H2Hs over an 18 month spell has finished with less than 3 goals with scorelines of 3-0, 2-2, 0-2, 1-3 and 0-5 all in Jong’s favour.

They currently sit bottom after 4 matches however and conceded 7 just last week against UNDEBA – low stakes stuff but I don’t wonder if the prices look to offer some value given the above.
