IT'S a huge night for Liverpool as they attempt to edge closer to Champions League final by beating Roma.

Jurgen Klopp has called on fans to recreate the atmosphere they produced in the last round against Man City – minus the attack on the opposition bus – and if they do Roma could be blown away.

Not sure who is the most nervous – Klopp or maccathered – but I'm backing magical Mo Salah to shoot down his old pals. I've posted a separate preview.

On the domestic front tonight's big match sees Cardiff try to take a step closer to automatic promotion by winning at Derby.

County have lost three in a row and can still make the play-offs but their performance levels have been poor and I'm on the Welsh side at 19-10 with betfair. Victory will move them four clear of Fulham with two games to go.

At the other end of the table Barnsley could be worth a look at Nottingham Forest. Barnsley will climb out of the drop zone and above Bolton with a win and face a Forest safe but really struggling for goals in recent weeks. The Tykes are 8-5 at Marathonbet and there could be another goal for on-loan Swansea striker Oli McBurnie. He is 9-4 at betfair to score.

In League One it's a straight title fight between Wigan and Blackburn and both are away tonight to sides with nothing to play for. Wigan travel to Bristol Rovers and Blackburn head to Doncaster and the double pays 9-5 at Marathonbet.

Accrington need one point to clinch the League Two title and are 6-5 with bet365 to win at Newport.

In Scotland Livingston have sealed second spot in the Championship and could rest players ahead of the play-offs. They are at home to Inverness who need a win to take the fight with Dunfermline to the last day on Saturday. If Livi go weakened look at backing the away.I

I put up a Super Single and Top Treble last night and planned to look out a goals treble when I got back from the golf but nothing stands out except for maybe games at Coventry and Yeovil so if it's goals you want consider doing Greg's French Ligue 2 special.

The £10 to £1000 challenge continues tonight and we had a record number of more than 1200 voting on so Twitter with the verdict on Liverpool to score 2+. Let's hope it lands.

Last night my only bet was a double that was beaten by Newcastle not scoring. Well done to all the winners including Greg and good luck for tonight.

2pts Super Single

  • Salah to score first
  • (11-4, McBookie)

2pts Top Treble

  • Cardiff +1
  • Wigan
  • Blackburn
  • (3-1, betfair)

Newry city V H&W Welders NI Championship.

Strange game this 1 Newry sit 2nd and qualify for promotion play off,Welders sit third { 2 points ahead of Portadown} and will qualify ahead of portadown should they beat Newry tonight. Thing is the Welders cant get promoted as their stadium doesnt meet premiership standards and therefore Newry have eliminated Portadown from the playoffs should they lose, there is absolutely no love lost between Newry and Portadown who’s fans always clash when meeting as happened last week and there is always players sent off when those 2 clash. Heard that Newry will be resting a number of first team players in this one, can see them losing and celebrating when they do. Only in N.ireland could you get this. Odds arent great as the bookies are no mugs but Welders to win @ 1/2 skybet is worth adding to any lines.Dont be throwing the house on it though as im just an observer not a psychic. Good Luck.

i really can’t see the liverpool roma game being a goal fest , far too much at stake for both teams

klopp for some bizarre reason played salah ,frimino and mane on the weekend along with several other key first teamers in a nothing league game away against west brom

anything could of happened and i always feel with liverpool if 2 of that front 3 goes down solanke & ings are at nowhere near the same level to deputise

    very strange decision

anyway i feel liverpool will need to be wary of the away goal threat roma pose …..and we are all aware of what roma are capable of doing at home

infact i think drawing roma was actually worse for liverpool than getting real madrid or bayern at this stage of the competition

roma will be acutely aware of what liverpool and the anfield factor are capable of …….they shipped 4 away at barca but only until a ridiculous own goal by de rossi in the 40th min and then another own goal by manolas 15 mins later

this has the feels of a 1 or 2 nil win to liverpool which to be honest i think roma would take that now

with all that in mind ……

sky bet offer a correct score group betting market ….

    liverpool win 1-0,2-0 or 2-1 – @ 15/8 which is a cracking price – 3pts

    also going for

    liverpool clean sheet @ 5/4 – 1.5 pt

With all due respect playing away in the nou camp isn’t the same as playing away at anfield. Barca are content to pass and circulate the ball until their hearts content because they know they’ll break down the team eventually whereas Liverpool come out and go straight for the jugular. Early Liverpool goal for me.

Having watched both legs of Roma’s games with Chelsea in the group stage it was obvious how good a cup team they are.

I think Roma will score tonight (possibly twice) but I don’t think Liverpool will lose.

It’s either Liverpool double chance and over 3.5 (odds 2.67 at 188BET)

Alternatively at bet365 over 2.5 and bts looks good value at 21/20.

Let’s hope for an entertaining gung ho kind of match and not one of those cagey affairs.

    Inverness to win 15/8* nap

Inverness need nothing less than 3 points to have any hope of a play off place, while livi have 2nd sown up. Would expect livi to rest quiet a few players tonight and the price is already slipping, was 11/5 when I checked last night (**now 13/8)

Similarly stenhousemuir can clinch a play off place with a win over Berwick who have nothing to play for. The double pays 3.5/1

Finally chuck in Accrington, Liverpool, Wigan and Blackburn as highlighted by Mr f for a lovely 36/1* acca. (*no idea what the odds are now, I got that when I tried to post this morning)

Very difficult to find value in this game but perhaps highest scoring half first at 21/10 might be worth a shot.
This game will either go like the city game with Liverpool blitzing them by HT but if not it could be a tough night ahead for Klopps reds.
So as I’m hoping for a Liverpool win it’s vital imo they get off to the best possible start as the longer it goes without a goal the more I can see it staying that way.

Also noted yesterday that I have a free bet on the Salah/Ronaldo anytime double with Unibet.

Massive game for Braintree (and Truro) tonight as others have mentioned. They welcome an Oxford side with nothing to play for and a habit for goals on their travels. 4 wins on the bounce for Braintree, including a massive win against Truro at the weekend, has put their playoff hopes in their own hands. There’s reasonable value about goals in the game so it certainly tempts.

With only two home blanks all season, and 37 goals scored in 19 home games (albeit in rather patchy fashion), I’m going to back the home side to get the job done tonight.

    Afternoon gents

There’s only one competition that matters tonight – you guessed it French Ligue 2 ???????????

We have a full card with 9 games and for the last three weeks now I’ve been posting total match goals – all three have landed and Friday’s most recent post saw 32 goals scored (NAP was 25 or more 1/1 )

The games have certainly come to life and last Friday saw the highest number of goals scored this season. Really surprised the bookies are setting markets again at 25+ but with a better price of 5/4. As I’ve said in previous weeks you only need a coupe of games to see 4 + goals to give it a chance. Plenty to play for in this league and this looks a standout

    Back 25+ goals 5/4 (Skybet) (NAP) ??

Just an early pointer for the weekend game between Dunfermline vs Dumbarton.

Dumbarton manager has done an interview in which he has admitted will be concentrated on the relegation play off game the following week rather than this game and won’t be training this week as a result. Dumbarton have various issues player wise already with injuries & suspension tightropes including 5 fullbacks , their captain and infultential midfielder Kyle Hutton who looks set to be left out to avoid being suspended for the play off. Dunfermline on the other hand have it all to play for to gurnantee a promotion play off spot and expect them to put a few past Dumbarton at least.

These prices won’t be here come Saturday :-
    Dunfermline & over 2.5 mgs 10/11
    Dunfermline over 2.5 tgs 5/4

    Good luck with tonight’s bets

    • Avatar of Mr Fixit

The one thing to note is Dunfermline’s play-off place is sealed tonight if Inverness don’t win.
If that’s the case they will also rest players.
Dumbarton have had their eye on the play-offs for weeks hence some heavy defeats.
If Inverness win tonight your advice is sound.

I’ll be honest with you, this past few weeks I’ve been completely jaded by the abject performances from my beloved Rams. Its not for want of, but more so for the fact that we’ve been completely spent up on any clues on how to see out a season. That’s 4 years now on the bounce. Come February and you may as well bet against Derby every single time.
I saw the Wolves game, i’d say before a ball was kicked, Derby were up against it, Wolves were in a different class to Derby in every area that is needed to compete in this league. The result was the right result on the night and Wolves took another significant step towards being crowned champions.
We then visited Burton who couldn’t buy a win. That was until we turned up. We lost 3-1 and again we were 3rd rate, but Burton deserved the win and it seems to of spurred new life in their fingertips that are helping them to cling onto championship survival. All too often the Rams have faced off against teams this season ripe for the plucking and we’ve not delivered ( Sunderland/Leeds/Sheff Wed ). We’ve managed just 1 league double on a side this year – Preston. I know that some managers just know how to play against certain sides and now Nigel Clough joins Mick McCarthy as 2 of the managers who know how to put a side out that can beat Derby.
Up next came a resurgent Middlesbrough who under Tony Pullis must be rubbing their hands together at the prospect of an outside chance of getting promotion through the playoffs. Derby hammered Middlesbrough 3 nil courtesy of a Vydra hatrick, sadly we were nowhere near that level when we faced them with home advantage. It ended with the rams being on the wrong end of a 2-1.
Rowett to be fair has swung his axe – straight in the direction of Keogh – who sat out the previous 4 games before Middlesbrough came knocking. 5 changes and a formation tweak was pushed through and it did little to stop the result going the way it did. I think we’ve weaknesses all over the pitch; our defence isn’t good enough, our defensive midfielders are not sharp enough, we’ve lost that extra attacking bite from midfield, we’ve not replaced Johnny Russell, Tom Lawrence is no replacement for Tom Ince and David Nugent has not once inspired me to think he’s better than Chris martin who’s been left out on the shelf with 2 years of being loaned out. That leaves Scott Carson between the sticks and Matej Vydra…….. 2 players propping up a squad of 11. That says it all.

Up step Cardiff tonight with a ” snowgate part 2 ” – ( read up on it if you will ). If Cardiff win tonight, they need 1 win from 2 games to guarantee 2nd spot. If Cardiff don’t get 3 points tonight, Neil Warnock will certainly storm into his own dressing room without a hint of shaking Rowetts hand !! I can see it playing out in my head.
1 thing is for certain, Derby have it all to do tonight. We’re homeshy, we have 27000 loyal fans that pay good money every 2nd match to see 3rd rate football and that home advantage is rarely becoming a factor in our results.
Cardiff will fancy their chances tonight and most site members would do themselves a huge favour in backing the Bluebirds and not the rams.
I though, shall still be wearing my colours, its not a bet with blinkers, more so a ” I could never bet on a side managed by Neil Warnock thing “.
I’m waiting for this lightbulb moment to happen at Derby and although it probably won’t happen, if Derby figure out that they still have an outside chance of being in the top 6 come May ( its in our hands ) and with Vydra on the pitch, anything can happen.

If by some fluke we make the playoffs, we’re ill equipped to compete for a shot in the final, and let god strike me down but if were to even get to Wembley and win it, every man and his dog will be eyeing up the Rams and thinking ” nailed on 6pts ” – we’re just not good enough at this level, we’ll be even less equipped 1 tier up.

Mel Morris has already said he’ll be looking for a younger fresher side, so it looks like Mrs Morris has stolen his cheque book ( or threatened him with the divorce courts ) – but the days of Derby spending big are now a thing of the past. Maybe next year will be a ” steady the ship season “, but if youth is what we want, then why sell Hendrick, Hughes, Ince – all below market value?? Somebody needs a reality check.

I would advise you don’t follow my lead and bet on Derby tonight. Its more a gut feeling that Rowett will need the win to justify the conspiracy theorists that Derby were right to call off that match 4 weeks back.

Good luck guys, i’ll hopefully be around with team news shortly.

    Derby team news:

Derby County: Carson; Wisdom, Keogh, Davies, Olsson; Johnson, Huddlestone, Forsyth; Weimann, Lawrence, Jerome.
Subs: Roos, Palmer, Pearce, Vydra, Hanson, Ledley, Nugent.

Forsyth out on the wing ( he’s a wing back in reality, but no Vydra in the starting 11. Maybe he’s gone a bit stale. Weimann in Vydra’s role and Jerome up front. I guess it is what it is.
There’s lots of players who have not been up to the task and if ever there is a time to up their game, its tonight. The Cardiff Morrison video is gonna have a baring on tonights game and if i’m honest, I think this should put some fire in the bellies of the rams. The pitch is fast and wet, its persisting it down and i’m only 2 miles from the ground. I personally think this will be a feisty affair. So expect lots of cards. That might be a gimme for those looking for the cards market.
My concern is that we may concede first. If we do, I think its game over for the rams. This season we’ve let our heads drop when we’ve gone behind and its a different mentality than that of past seasons where we’ve got back into matches from a goal down and gone on to take the spoils.
The weather could force mistakes for both sides, it could be goal laden but from what I’ve seen so far this past few years in many leagues, wet weather hampers goals rather than help them. I think the weather, the occasion, the pro’s and cons for both teams with something to play for, the Morrison video, the snowgate saga, it all points to cards, cards and more cards.

1 point will see us back in the playoffs, but with an away trip to Villa and I think home to Leeds, the pressure is on Derby now to get a result.

    good luck guys.

DEPORTIVO LARA VS. MILLONARIOS (2315 KO):

No doubt who the better side is here but whilst the Colombians won 4-0 in the previous H2H – they don’t travel too well and Lara have a habit of rarely blanking on home soil.

They also defeated a far superior Independiente side 1-0 pretty recently in the CL and that was a hard fought game.

I won’t say Derby were perfect but they were 100% better than the shite we’ve been playing since October. This game could easily of seen a 5-3 score-line and Derby dictated the play right up until Cardiff scored. Cardiff looked dangerous up front and were guilty along with Derby on wasting many chances. I said this game would be feisty.

Bet365 have this down as 4-0 on cards to Cardiff, anyone that had a bet on cards with them needs to question it because Jerome got booked in injurytime when we made it 3-1. 5 cards in total.

The cherry on the cake was Vydra scoring his 21st goal of the season – 20th league goal taking him back to the top of the championship top scorers.

Back in the top 6, a massive performance. My ” I won’t bet on a Warnock side ” gave me a nice little 9/5, sorry I advised otherwise but I never saw that one coming, Cardiff had about 15 mins of dominance and the rest of the match was quite open ended. I thought the ref was stingy with his cards too.

I also called it wrong with Warnock not shaking Rowetts hand. Spoilsport !! Just in case by some fluke Morrison from Cardiff gets to read this…. Up yours !!

I got it wrong earlier, Derby play Villa and Barnsley. The Barnsley game could be key to Burton staying up, but if we play like this which would surprise me, then all bets are off. I’d play Cardiff every week. Incidentally, we played 3 at the back with Forsyth and Wisdom as wing-backs. It worked. Wisdom had a stormer.

    See you all Saturday.

    From earlier:

Odds arent great as the bookies are no mugs but Welders to win @ 1/2 skybet is worth adding to any lines.Dont be throwing the house on it though as im just an observer not a psychic
    Result Newry 0 H&W Welders 3

Not a great price but thought they would be worth adding to something if anyone decided to add them knowing the history of what goes on in local football ;)
