Alan Thomson’s Tips: Dancer can call the tune in Toon

SCOTTISH trainers can mop up a few winners at Newcastle and TRADITIONAL DANCER (2.05) can get the ball rolling in the 2m handicap.

Iain Jardine's gelding is right rogue but the handicapper has given him a big chance in what is a very poor event. Traditional Dancer may have been sweetened up by a couple of very respectable runs over hurdles at Musselburgh, behind Treshnish and Sir Chauvelin respectively, and a repeat of his course and distance fourth to Apalis before Christmas would probably suffice.

THEGLASGOWWARRIOR (2.40) runs this track extremely well and could cope with a rise in class.

A 5lb rise for his latest course and distance success is largely negated by the 3lb claim of Phil Dennis. Keith Dalgleish saddles favourite Paddyplex and although he boasts superior form, Paddyplex has to concede lumps of weight to Jim Goldie's horse.

Alistair Whillans's GALILEE CHAPEL (3.10) is a very infrequent visitor to the winner's enclosure but he is another horse dropping in the ratings.

He scored over course and distance last December off a 7lb higher mark and his recent fourth to Theglasgowwarrior was a fair effort. Connor Murtagh is one of the better riders in this apprentices' handicap.

Over the sticks at Doncaster, CLONDAW NATIVE (3.30) has decent prospects in the 3m handicap hurdle.

Stuart Edmunds's gelding beat Nicky Henderson's Settie Hill and subsequent winner Robin Waters at Wetherby and although Clondaw Native has a little bit to find with favourite Gunfleet on a line through Silver Kayf, he may have improved in the interim.
